I wonder if there are any Amsterdammers that are familiar with the world music scene and could tell me of a festival or two that i haven't missed yet... there was a pretty cool Noord-Afrikaanse Music festival in Westerpark last week, but the weather was terrible for it... I'm hoping that there might be some sun in the future and a nice outdoor performance to go with it... oh, and by the way, so far the Greenhouse off of the Damrak, and Amnesia on the Herengracht are my favourite coffeeshops in the Centrum.... haven't ventured too far out, yet... if anyone's coming this way and wants a mini-tour, i'll toke your first with you ;-)
29 july- 2 august there's an event at Ruigoord about 5 miles west of Amsterdam (easy bus ride, but no service from about 12am - 7am ) offering camping, music, theater, happening and fun. Only 20 euros for 5 days. http://www.ruigoord.nl/E02landjwlindex.htm 27-29 August is the Uitmarkt in the Museumplein area. There are usually 4-5 stages and several tents offering free live music. http://www.uitmarkt.nl/ These are 2 of my favorite festivals of the year.
There's a festival being held at the Melkweg on March 20-22, 2005, called Amsterjam. There will be 4 bands playing: Umphrey's McGee, the Disco Biscuits, Particle, and Keller Williams. They are American bands, but TONS of fun. These guys really know how to party. I will be going to this, and it will be my first time in Amsterdam. I can't wait! Maybe I'll get to meet some of you there!
