I never got the munchies until someone described them to me. As one veteran stoner told me "Don't associate weed with food." In saying that of course, she made me associate weed with food. [IMG]

So is there a real chemical cause behind the munchies or do you guys agree it's all in your head.

Yes there is a chemical reaction when a person is stoned that causes them to crave food in a very powerful way. Some say it is because weed lowers blood sugar levels, while others say it is because THC activates certains neurons in the brain that are responsible for hunger.

All I know for sure is that eating food, especially sugary foods, while you're stoned decreases your high, which is why I hold off on eating until I am almost back to baseline.

However, there is a purely mental side to it as well. I never had the munchies all the years I smoked until I went to college. Sure there were times I'd eat while high but not the classic munchies. IN college my roomie would always want to cook some food and that started my munchie binge. Thankfully I've now gotten it under control to where I don't eat when high anymore

Really, the urge to eat is always a mental thing; the brain sends signals to the body telling you it's time to eat. The active areas of the brain are even more active when a person is stoned, meaning the parts of the brain that are responsible for hunger are more active as well; thus....the munchies occur. While you body needs sustinance, wanting to eat and needing to eat are two totally different things.

I seem to have the perma-munchies.

I think im lucky i dont get the munchies cus i save money.
Its kind on annoying when one of my friends who always get them, says
"aaaah man im sooooo hungary, what can i buy for $1.40"

if you've REALLY badly got the munchies, eat some french fries

a small thing of french fries will get rid of your munchies quickly, but it won't decrease your high

I try to avoid munchies unless it's fruit or the occasional cookie or chocolate. I like to go for visual and aural stimulation.

Hey has anyone trying smelling a bunch of pleasant aromas while high? I've never really gone around smelling different scents yet; is even that heightened?

I don't have to eat a lot of food when i get the munchies( although i usually do, by nature) i just like to experiance the taste. Like when i eat chocolate cake, it just tastes soooooooooooooooooooooo much better when i am high. it's incredible. i wouldn't say it's all in your head. i mean, for me it isn't like a craving per se...just i want to know what it tastes like and feel it.

I'm never hungry unless I'm stoned anymore, and when I'm stoned, I get ONE thing to eat, but it can be anything I want (as long as it's not too big) and that's the only thing I'll let myself eat. So, I mean...there's definitely a message in my brain saying, "I'm hungry! I want to eat!" (I really like chewing...when I'm baked...it's so crazy...) so I respond to the messages without going crazy and eating through my whole kitchen. You just have to have the self-control.

Heh. I've had to utilize this as a matter of necessity before. There's no food in the house and I'm feeling so sick I could puke from hunger, so I smoke a huge bowl to take away the hunger pains. It works.

Which is odd, since usually I get munchies like no other.
