Is there anyone around here who moved out right after high school? As the first semester is wrapping up, me and my potential roommate are trying to get our plans moving. How hard is it to move out after high school and what are the biggest financial risks encountered?? I'd like to hear some other stories before i dive into this. Also, what about applicant descrimination. The thing is, im 100% Alabamian white, and she's 100% Ethiopian black, and i know that kinda thing comes up a lot here in the south.
Alabamian white... haha I haven't moved out yet, but will soon, probably before I graduate. I've looked into it and I think the things you will need to be saving for is appt rent, car insurance (if you have no car, dont worry about it), health insurance, food, and a few other things... college is a big thing for money too. I would look into all that now if I were you. The race thing could be a problem down there... do you two plan on staying in the south?
the best advice i can give you is this: buy a rice cooker - bulk rice is the tastiest and cheapest thing you can eat... here you can get a 15 kilogram bag of importend japanese rice for like 12 bucks at these little markets.
Ramen noodles ! You can do anything with Ramen. Just make up recipes or google them... there's a Ramen homepage with nearly 200 recipes ranging from salads to BBQ ramen.
I did... Its a lot harder than you think... Save, save save, and even though you save all you can save, it still isnt enough I look at it this way, just as long as rent is paid, everything is okay And you all can say do this and Im gonna do that and buy rice and all this...haha, sounds good idea at first, hahah but it never works out that way... But I dont have a roomate so were different in that aspect there..
It is really tough, no doubt. Don't live beyond your means, because it's really easy to get in over your head. Everything is so damn expensive. Not only do you have rent, but you have to pay a deposit in advance most of the time. I remember having to pay this insane amount up front to even get my lights turned on. Just make sure you have plenty saved to cover all the up front bullshit. Good luck...=)
haha yeah, i remember that, i had to pay 70 bucks for deposit for my electric, and then 50 for gas, and the 75 for phone just for the freakin deposit
Thanks for the tips! Yes, we are planning on living in the south. The same town we live in now. You gotta stay close to your friends of course! Hell yes. Another thing about it is, i will probably have a Job when i move out that will be paying 10.75 an hour. Is that enough to support day to day living? I know the ups and downs of saving, im already saving from my $7 hourly happy teenage job, and after Christmas shopping is out of the way im going to attempt to put a minimum of $100 a check into my last semester boost fund. Preparation is fun!!
You should make your own presents, with a sewing machine or something, that would save you a bunch of money already. How many hours will you be working with that 10.75 job? You should find that out, incase you need another one.
Well, here it is. It's the night before we turn in our apartment application for that after-school apartment we've been pushing for... and Im having more second thoughts than an undressed schoolgirl. I feel like this day has come up so fast. I have appx. 800 dollars to spend for the up front costs, and i managed to swing a half-paid scholarship a local college. I still want to move out, but im also worried about all the things that could go wrong. Im in the process of finding me a day job, to go around my future classes and such. Im trying to get one to fit around my burger king job and school schedule. I dunno.... i kinda got the last minute jibblies.
damn man.. how exciting. i'll be moving in like a week too... how exciting. i've got $1100 or so now, but i've got a roomate who makes quite a bit of money (she works at the post office), she'll hopefully find an appt tomorrow and put the dp on it and what not... that $1100 will most likely shrink to $700 or $800 or somewhere around there, since ive got the chance to buy a bass guitar in this next week and i suck when it comes to spending money on musical things... oh well.
My first summer after I finish high school, I plan on going on a road trip with my friends. Then I'm going to do my first two years of college at the local county college. I'm going to move into an apartment near the school. Then I'm going to finish up my last two years at either the Academy of Art in San Fransico or I'll go to the UK.
i always thought everyone planned to move out and never went through with it... i guess everyone pans everything but never goes through with it. hm. slackers.
