Ive been checking out more of this directors films over the past month. I had already seen the shining, full metal jacket, a clockwork orange, 2001, and Dr. Strangelove.

I saw Eyes wide Shut and as you can see from my sig, i must have liked it. Its now one of my favorite Kubrick films. Lots of people seem to not like it, and imagine the film as being full of sex like on big orgy, which is not the case. to me its one of the most nicely crafted films of his. As he did with the shining, it was shot in full frame, which basically is a today different way of shooting than the usual widescreen. Cruise and Kidman are great in the film whether you like them or not. And the film has kind of a hypnotic feel that pulls you in as the story gets more and more interesting. I think I enjoyed it more the first time because I really hadnt heard much about it and I knew nothing about the "famous" scene, which is amazing in itself in my opinion. even the music is very good and fits the mood perfectly. Though I usually would prefer the best scene to be towards the end. but the entire film is very good, and was a great last film.

Last week I rented Barry Lyndon and Lolita. Barry lyndon is a type of movie that I normally wouldnt enjoy, or be able to get into but not this one.But its a great story and I thought it was great as well. Its a very entertaining film and is hard to turn off when once started, like most of Kubricks films. However since it was a 3 hour film, I ended up watch it in 3 parts.

Yesterday morning I could not sleep so I decided to put on Lolita. I was only going to watch part of it but when started I couldnt really turn it off. And I dont know what I loved so much about this film either. Peter Sellers is great and as in strangelove hes almost playing different parts, though in this he is the same character throughout the movie. It is definatly a very good study of sexual obsession and I seemed to just like the whole mood and vibe of the film, if that makes any sense in a none- petefile type of way.

So, I still have yet to see a film by this director that I do not like. Kubrick was definatly among the best hollywood directors ever.

Paths of Glory and Spartacus are worth seeing.Actually it would not be correct to have labled him a Hollywood director.Although he hailed from the USA , he was based in England since 1961.The studio scenes in all the films that he made since 1961 were shot at Pinewood.

Yes i know. When I said Hollywood i meant moreso a "american" big budget filmmaker and I think the main company he was at was warner brothers anyway. but i could be wrong about that. Paths of glory is at the library, which im going to today and I was already going to get it. I dont think they have Spartacus though.

Good post. I loved Eyes Wide Shut. Very mysterious, deep film. I haven't seen as many Kubrick films as you have but the ones I have seen I've loved.

Dr Strangelove is a great movie. Eyes Wide Shut is ok but I prefer Last Tango in Paris (in that kind of genre)

Full Metal Jacket is awesome, two films in one ineffect. The opening scene must be one of the best starts to a film ever.

A Clockwork Orange is also brilliant! The guy had a great eye

I like all the films of his ive seen. But Strangelove and Full Metal Jacket are my least favorites so far.that doesnt mean i think theyre bad by any means. george c. scott and peter sellers are great in strangelove, and full metal jacket is a great war film, though i dont find it to be too much better than the rest of the vietnam films. I think ive just seen it too many times and am tired of it at the moment. My favorites of his are Eyes Wide Shut, 2001, and The Shining.

Thats on my list as well. I probably shouldnt have named the thread what it is because i wasnt really asking to know what are some other Kubrick films. I just wanted to know what everyone thinks about them. thanks though. My mistake. and if anyone else does know of any more Kubrick films, that I havent seen besides the 3 mentioned, please let me know. I rented Paths of glory like I said I was going to, but havent gotten aroud to watching it yet.
