So, let's say I know someone having a mold problem right now. He's growing mushrooms and jars were made under perfect conditions using brown rice and vermiculite. Then we cooked them in the pressure cooker perfectly, and innoculated in front of a hephifilter. They sat in a garage for 4 weeks or so, and only 4 cases worth finished (started with 72 jars and 6 jars per case). When the jars were in a garage, we thought it was cause the garage was too cool during the nights. No matter how hot it got, that garage always stayed cool like around 65-70. After 4 weeks, the jars were brought out and placed in a room at a constant 82 degrees, 24/7. The jars still barely grew. and like I said, it's like they stopped now. It's week 5-6 now and it's like almost all the jars stopped growing. The ones we cased looked perfect, but took awhile and they were cased. Mold is springing up everywhere all over the cases. We have a few theories. The syringes are dirty or the strain is out of whack. That's one theory. Anyone know if this could be why these jars are taking so long and then mold is springing up everywhere (almost like a dark greenish color too)? Another theory is that mold grew inside and when we placed it in the heat, the mold was inside the cakes, and not stopping it around the sides. That's one possiblity we came up with. Any other ideas? I've never seen anything like this, it's usually perfect every time. It definitely worked better with the last batch. But it seems this set of syringes is not reacting well at all. And we ordered the same as last time.
once you got some Tric http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trichothecene throw everything away, as far away as any fruiting or healty colonized material that you have, dont touch it either and bring it back to your shroom garden.. take a bath, change your clothes.. get out of the garage #1!!! another thing is.. Some spores hardly even colonize properly with BFR.. you might have to LC a certain strain, even so.. to delicate of an organism for you not to have researched it properly, you may, you may not have .. A cube is a cube is a cube, but they dont all cube the same, if they were not different, they would be everywhere..
If you could upload a couple of pictures, it would be much easier to say if it's mold or not. Did you remember not to cover the holes in the lid? The mycelia needs to breath in order to grow. You can cover them with micropore tape. That way the mycelia can breath and you avoid contamination.
Okay, we got the jars to finish. We opened them up a bit to release the co2 and they finished. Now its just the mold issue... idk... the cases have had some cakes molding, which we got rid of, and some that fruited fine, and some cakes in the case won't even fruit.... its weird... we just keep the lids on the cases. Would it help to keep them off? I was thinkin of firing up the old room. Its lined with plastic, has shelves, and a light with a timer. And a humidifier rigged to run constantly, and we can get the room to 92% humidity easily. Think that would work better than leaving the lids on?
Sorry, I failed to mention we have the cases near a window for sunlight. Those are the ones with the lids. And there's enough room in the bin not lined with aluminum foil for light to get in. Would it work better with lids off and using a light with a timer?
Well you dont colonize with LIght, though you can if your like fruiting bags, cause then it can do both towards the end of colonization.. but not with BFRs in jars. and you dont take the lid off til, your gonna birth and dunk.. if you feel the air exchange isnt good, you could gently punch holes in them and cover with tape. but I wouldnt do it. It its stalling,, Id just abandoned it far aways and visit it later on.. There are much faster ways to grow my friend.. you dont leave lids off a FC (fruit chambers)either.. your asking for critters, gnats,, gets a clear terrarium (plastic tote) drill hole in it but put breathing tape on them.. dont let them get to much sun cause it will get to hot and burn em, mine like my HPS but will wilt them really quick being too close, or magnified by plastic.. and do your thing for humidity..
We figured it out. These syringes are efinitely not amazonian, like we ordered. We had some cases finish and they are nothing like the amazonians. Look completely different, the whole trip is different. I'm gonna bitch the guy out at earthstongue. He's doin shady business now. I'm lookin into some new spore places. Anyone know any good places?
