K, obviously this guy was into some drugs cuz he died of an overdose...but after listening to some of his shit last year, and a few days ago tripping and realizing that it's way easier to talk in certain ways while tripping, and watching his special while I was coming up....I'm pretty sure this guy has tripped A LOT over the years. On his special, there's actually a part where he slips and you can tell FOR SURE that he's fucked up while he's doing his act. Anyone have any thoughts? Agree/disagree, do you like his shit, do you think he's just retarded, etc. I find him to be hilarious, partly because it's really similar to how I make jokes...I actually started a a joke-telling frenzy the other day cuz I started talking about ice cubes the same way he would have, and my friends quoted him for like an hour straight, and now it's kinda like the inside joke type shit with them. Last year when I tripped, I hadn't really realized all that shit yet, but there was a trip where for about two hours everything everyone said sounded like a joke of his, like what they were saying was in his style.
mitch hedburg was a good comedian, but he reminded me alot of steven wright...... to automatically assume that he came up with all of that by the use of acid or other drugs is a bit farfetched I would say. drugs dont make you more creative
Is that the guy with the long hair and kinda looks like kurt cobane? If so that dude was pretty fuckin funny. I like when he talks about going out into the woods to trip.
If that's what you thought I meant, perhaps I misspoke...I don't necessarily think that he used drugs to come up with material, I'm talking about it's obvious that he's on drugs while performing, specifically hallucinogens because of the way he talks. The emphasis he places on certain words leads me to believe this...and when I mentioned that he slipped up - you have to see it or listen to it. He rambles on, says a few random, nonconnected words, then says "rocknroll...ohh fuck.." and then catches himself. And yes, that bear scene was hilarious, especially when I saw it while I was comin up. I could imagine that happening...one guy would realize how dire the situation was and probably freak out, everyone else would be all "hegh?" Now that you say it I guess he does kinda look like Kurt Cobane, I was kinda thinkin he looked like Jonny Dep as Hunter S. Thompson in Fear and Loathing, with longer hair.
As far as I'm concerned MH was one of the most witty comedians out there, through his material you could definatly tell he had a very unique perspective on things. I'm sure he indulged in psychedelics from time to time, but I wouldn't think he's on anything while performing, for me that would be my worst nightmare while tripping, on stage with hundreds of people watching you..
Yeah, that's the guy. He was absolutely hilarious! I always loved his stuff... my fave is his skit about escalators ... "sorry for the convienence of stairs"
Then again, look at Hendrix. He did acid all the time while on stage in front of thousands, not just hundreds. Of course ... then again ... look at Hendrix. Unfortunately, some of the greatest minds burn out before people really can appreciate them fully.
