The condition where specific noises bother you is misophonia, which is characterized by strong negative emotional reactions to particular sounds like chewing or tapping.

One of the things that drives me insane is to hear anything shifting around inside my vehicle when I’m driving. I literally stop, get out and reposition whatever it is that’s making all that damn noise - or else I can’t continue to drive.

What are some of those noises that get under your skin and damn near make you hate the world?

My neighbor’s ##&@% gas powered leaf blower. It’s creepy, when I or my wife are outside, out comes the blower at about 89 decibels. I sure understand why many communities, particularly in California are banning gas powered lawn equipment. I’m willing to bet he has already fried his hearing.

I don’t like it when they use those at 7am. Pretty loud when it’s still somewhat early in the morning, and just getting off third shift and trying to sleep.

A sudden loud noise, the sound of liquid being poured and chewing food. I don't even like to hear my OWN chewing.

Definitely don’t like sudden loud noises!! The sound of liquid being poured doesn’t bother me, especially if it’s alcohol. And yeah, I’m conscious about my chewing in public, but when I’m by myself I’m like the Tasmanian Devil cartoon character, LOL

I startle real easily! Someone entering a room I'm in real fast--the fists come up! A loud noise --the cussing starts and MAYBE the fists come up! I can be startled and then startled again some seconds or minutes later!

I was at my computer one time and my number one son turned on the siren on a combo siren --loud speaker apparatus and I was up--chair kicked to the side and I was about 3 feet away from him with fists at the ready!:D He backed up said--WAIT!!

    LMAO!!
Man, my daughter, before she moved out on her own, would be in the kitchen and slamming those cabinet doors while I’m trying to watch tv- and it was loud, startled the hell out of me and pissed me off!!
