Well, I got this metal bubbler out of a headshop in town. It works great, I fucking love it. All of the disadvantages of a metal pipe just aren't present if it's a bubbler.

The only thing that I worry about, however, is rust. Now, you'd think that the people that were making this thing had to have thought at one point, "Well, wait, water is going in here. We should make sure this doesn't rust." I don't really doubt they did, but I like to be safe.

Now, the thing that comforts me the most, is that along with the other pieces there, was a bubbler with a copper basin. Well, I looked at it, hoping to not find a downstem, because copper would rust very readily, and I didn't find one. However, the thing that troubles me, is that there were also some other ones there; they have the same amount of metal as the one I have now, if not less. The difference is the weight, though. They were quite heavy, and when I looked in the inside, it looked like cast iron, and I'm fairly sure I saw rust inside of it.

Basically, I made my purchase on the grounds that it seemed to light to have too much iron in it, and that there didn't appear to be rust in there. I've never had a metal pipe rust on me before, and the metal pipes we get here are largely the same as this bubbler I bought.

Anyway, on to the main point; if there is a slight possiblity that rust does build up, is there much risk of getting tetnis by just smoking through a rusty piece? I know the rust could enter my bloodstream through my lungs, but the question I have is whether or not the rust would even break free to make it there. I mean, not only is it low possibility that it will rust, but also there is a thick layer of resin over the metal now.

    Opinions?

I think you can inhale the tiny particles of rust if it got bad, but if it's covered in resin, maybe not. I would be careful and check it often. you can remove rust. Just be observative. I wouldn't take any chances if you did see some rust. Rust can turn into dust particles easily, but liek you said, if theres a low risk of rust, and lots of resin covering the metal, don't worry about it and just keep checking for any signs of wear.

tetnis is a germ, not a mineral. it just happens to grow on rusty metal thats left in the soil.

why would it have any iron in it at all? that would be too expensive when they can just use aluminium primarily. and some brass. aluminium is usually pre-rusted as a protection, andyou can notice this if its been coloured.

the rust will not enter your bloodstream unless it is somehow mixedin with the smoke. now unless the bowl is made of an iron-base, then it shouldnt rust. if theres some rust in the water-chamber bit, it shoudmt matter, caus the water should keep it down.
at any rate, our blood is red BECAUSe of the iron-oxygen combinations in it.
