Hi, I just stumbled across this story, which speak of use of a memory implant and drugs to influence memory in a living brain. http://www.technovelgy.com/ct/Science-Fiction-News.asp?NewsNum=3323 Has anybody else come across any memory devices/brain implants? The is MK Ultra sort of stuff!
I just write notes in my kitchen and pin them on the wall ,though sometimes i do forget to read them sometimes .
There are many natural ways of improving your memory that I would trust more than memory implants... Like reading, studying, learning every single day, going to school... fish oil, all great ways to improve memory by exercizing your mind.
Of course, I am interested because of two reasons: 1) The beneficial medical applications of such technology and the effect such advances could have on robotics (kind of scary) 2) The inevitable misuse of such technology by fucking about with people's minds (like I said, MK Ultra sort of stuff. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_MKULTRA
yes mustlivelife, this sort of stuff has huge potential for misuse. I'm not sure the potential benefits is worth the potential for misuse. This technology in particular seems like it could be used to implant false memories.
They found out they could erase people's memories with electroshock therapy quite a while back, in "The Living Dead: You Have Used Me As A Fish Long Enough" by Adam Curtis, there is an interview with a lady who had her memory totally erased in an evil research project!!! Probably MK Ultra. They also found out that they could not really implant memories, only aid the patient in creating false memories by setting up situations whilst the subject was pumped full of LSD and things like that. So, whereas I don't think that they could implant memories with a device like this, they could certainly choose whether somebody's memory is functioning properly or not. Be this to remember or to recall. One step closer to mind control! It reminds me a little bit of some of the electrodes they would implant in people's heads for MK Ultra, alledgedly used to spark memories... Ooooh... It's crazy evil stuff out there!
Sure electroshock is very effective in turning a the brain into one's own tool, these implanatable devices take the concept to a whole new level. As technology continues to shrink being able to communicate wirelessly w/ the 'pawns' brain in real time is already here.
I remember when my grandfather died I was pissed off that all that info he had in there could not be downloaded
Now that IS a scary thought! That is a very interesting concept, "downloading" the memories of a human being. A device which could convert the electro-chemical impulses in the brain into digital data. It's like people would never die, we could have all their memories, the whole of their brain's output, even, all in a computer programme! You could make a hologram resembling the person and talk to it, the computer software would calculate a response based on the memories of that person!!! In theory, with a device like that you could "live link" to the visual memories, or perhaps the visual centre itself, and see throug ha persons eyes as they see things. We'd have no need for cameras, we'd just tap a few keys and the implantee's eyes would be the cameras, what they see would be transmitted as though it were a webcam or something. With true sight high def!
You couldn't get away with any crimes... In fact they could tell if you were going to commit a crime!!! They would know what you're thinking!!! Knowledge? Well, he must of learned it from somewhere, so it's probably out there, somewhere. Maybe you could download his memories and filter out the knowledge?
