Well i just wanted too say i'm a huge fan of melodic death metal. And i wanted to see if anyone else here is too? Some of my favorite melodic death bands have to be. Skyfire Norther Dark Tranquillity Wintersun The Absence Arch Enemy Shadow Shade Empire Mors Principium Est Nightrage Omnium Gatherum Becoming The Archetype There's so many more, i just wanted to list a few.
Well, I was impressed by Eternal tears of sorrow. But generally I don't like melodic death metal and death metal in general at all. Where it comes to extreme metal, I prefer black. I'm always looking for atmosphere in music I guess, and death metal is just a more technical genre.
That's cool, i love Eternal Tears Of Sorrow. Since you like black metal though, have you ever listened to Illnath? They are probably my favorite black metal band.
Nope, I haven't. I'm listening to the song on their myspace right now, seems ok, but it's not genious. The keyboard is also a bit too dominating in my opinion. But yeah, this is the only song I've heard of them.
i must say that i didn't listen melodic death metal very much...but i heard some songs by Kalmah and it sounds ok.and i know lots of My Dying Bride lyrics that i like very much. what do you think about My Dying Bride?
Quoted for truth and awesomeness. - Black metal; - Doom metal; <...void...> - All other metal. My Dying Bride? I'm a HUGE fan of 'em, but this really is not the thread to discuss them, as they're not exactly a death metal band at all, melodic or otherwise.
Dissection and Arsis are up there with Kalmah for my picks of the genre. I can't really stand some of the bands that made the style big, In Flames and At The Gates. Dark Tranquility had several great early releases, but they just keep rehashing themselves and it's gotten old. Arsis rips particularly for being two guys.
Well, i have to disagree with you about Dark Tranquillity, i think they have been getting better with time. (Although their new album that releases this month isn't that great at all, it's just a bunch of filler tracks.) But i definately agree with you about In Flames and At The Gates. Take At The Gates for example, Slaughter The Soul is by far their best album, and it's an amazing album. But when the years went on they just got alot worse. The same with In Flames, Come Clarity is terrible. But any track from The Jester Race and Whoracle are amazing. Arsis is great, they are really cool guys too. Both times when they have come to Utah i was able to hang out with James, and Mike. It really sucks that Mike left the band though, and they took on 3 new members. I bet when they come out with a new album it won't be as good. Because Mike's drums made the band. And whoever was talking about My Dying Bride i actually can't stand them. Don't get me wrong i really enjoy doom metal. But i think that they are one of the worst doom metal bands. (Although many people would disagree with me, some people say they are the leaders of doom metal.) For me i really enjoy Katatonia though.
I think it's good but everyone's trying to do it now. A British Metal band who are local to me called 'The Hollow Earth Theory' seriously have what it takes to be Global successors in this area, containing originality and sick as fuck growls mixed with really melodic singing. I also like Children of Bodom, NAILDOWN (you should love these), Darkaine, Norther, Illdisposed, Opeth, Soilwork, Threat Signal (and these), Thine Eyes Bleed, Arch Enemy and shitloads more like Necrophagist, The Berzerker, Nile, Stormtroopers of Death, Vader, Deicide, Naglfar, Napalm Death, etc, so on and so forth. Metal all the fuicking way.
Yeah, i've heard almost all of those bands, i really like technical death metal too. (Stuff like Necrophagist, Daath, and Sleep Terror.) Although, i really don't like Deicide, Napalm Death, The Bezerker, Nile. Naildown, Norther, Arch Enemy,Opeth, Soilwork, Darkane and Naglfar kick ass though. I checked out the local band you suggested, and to be honest i don't like the vocals at all. Not nearly enough harsh vocals, especially to be considered melodic death. Their guitar needs alot of work too. (Just my opinion, hopefully it doesn't offend you.)
Shit no, it's not MY band! And I know the guys well enough to say they'd take that as 'constructive criticism' and wouldn't feel any need to back themselves up with a prevailing ego either!!! They are really decent folk.
I couldn't help but notice that one of those bands are far from melodic death metal, and, well, death metal altogether. S.O.D. are thrash, man, thrash. All good though. Personally, I find a lot of melodeath metal (did i just make up a word? methinks yes.) to be annoying. Carcass (last albums) and Dissection are definite exceptions, but for the most part, I can't stand the genre. I love death metal though.. Deicide, Nile, Obituary, Cannibal Corpse, ect..
I do like Naglfar as well, but yeah, they're a bit between death and black. Dissection has some ok stuff too.
Children Of Bodom has been of my favorite bands for the past 4 years. Follow The Reaper is definately their best album. (I can listen to "Children Of Decadence", and "Bodom After Midnight" a million times.) They also have the record for playing the best show i have ever seen. They came with Amon Amarth, and Trivium. So i think that's why it was so amazing.
I find CoB's music to be annoying and repetitive. Happy keyboard jingles just don't belong. haha. Alexi has some skill, and great influences (see Jeff Waters, of Annihilator) If I had to choose, I'd pick the older stuff over AYDY? or whatever the newest album is.
