Recently a manager at a bank told a friend that they can't give free checks anymore because of the new financial reform laws. I guess it really hurt them that they can't rip people off anymore with huge increases in interest rates on credit cards and the like.

This stuff happens all the time, and I'm sure a lot of people believe it and it affects their political beliefs and how they vote.

I'm sure unions do similar things.

I think it's pretty awful that a boss would try to do this and be stupid enough to put it in writing, but the answer isn't to stop that, especially since it's not possible. The answer is to get people to think for themselves, really understand policy and economics, and vote based on how it will affect them, their neighbors, and the country.

You must have forgotten what it's like to be young and just taking your first steps into adulthood.

The operator of the franchise should not of put this in a letter, that goes without saying. The corporation can do little other than to voice policy and possibly revoke the franchise. The owner apologized.

The reality is that this happens all the time. Most business owners are resourceful enough to not put it in writing but instead verbally do so. Be it meetings or just generally making it very clear what they feel is best for jobs and business and what candidate suits that. So the message is still there for anyone impressionable enough to listen.

Nothing new and if it was not MacDonald's then it would not be making news. If it was the small corner grocer with 15 employees we never would have heard about it. Not news worthy.

I looked at the smilies list and could only find one of a person beating a dead horse. Could someone show me where the throwing a guy under the bus smilie is? Thank you in advance.

So did I. I had a good laugh.

You mean those same kids that are all tough & macho and think they are mature enough to drink booze or do dope or smoke, big enough to know what is right for themselves, old enough to make decisions for themselves.... you mean they aren't big enough to know how to vote for themselves?

    Tsk. Tsk. Tsk.

No, not them. I'm talking about the ones who know their limitations and consider consequences.

    Oh. The semi-intelligent ones.

    Ok, and the point is....?
Dude, if they know their limitations, can consider their consequences, I presume they know how to think. And IMO no matter their age, if they let others think for them when it comes to voting, then no they really aren't any different than the little kiddies.

If at 40 you don't consider yourself more knowledgeable and savvy than a 19 year old on his first job, you'll never understand my point.

Are you saying it's ok for McDonald's to take advantage of "The semi-intelligent ones?"
