Hey there fellow Canucks (and American friends)! The Liberal party of Canada has declared the war on drugs to be a failure and are promising to legalize marijuana if elected… and this is exciting news because we're not talking about some small party that never gets any votes here-- this is a major political party which has formed the government for well over a decade. And this after the party currently in power has moved to make sentences for something as simple as possession much longer and more severe… All I can say is FINALLY! I'm not such a big pothead right but I had my time and I can say without a doubt keeping it illegal is ridiculous, and making the penalties for possession more severe can only be seen as ignorant and even a little fascist. Four more years guys-- and then I want to see absolutely everyone on this forum who has citizenship going out to vote!!!
Bullshit, they are lying through their teeth like they always do. They just want the "stoner" vote so they can try to beat the conservatives. The liberals are the least trustworthy party in Canada, I will never believe a damn thing they say. I laugh at all the people who hate the Conservatives and then go vote liberal. One is just as bad as the other, stop deluding yourselves. (By the way I do not vote, not because I do not care, but because there are no parties in my area that I can support. Liberal, Conservative, NDP, Green... they are all terrible.)
yep..when youre the lowest of the low with zero chance of winning a majority you can promise anything in the effort to get the uninformed vote http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberal_Party_of_Canada
NDP and Green Party both have platforms to legalize. And they are MUCH more trustworthy than the liberals IMO
Well people can wish for the best, you know? Go Canada, go! If this does work out in the future, then it's just another reason for me to hurry up and visit Canada.
You're crazy if you think the liberals would ever legalize marijuana. I don't even think the NDP would.
I'm not a pot smoker (I've never touched the stuff) but I think that this is a great idea. Less people wrongfully imprisoned means less packed spaces, and more people in the working force. Pot legalization would give Canada a new multi-million dollar market (multi-billion, even! B.C. would be a great place to grow the stuff) and could help make the recession have less of an impact on people.
In the U.S. it's Ron Paul, who's running as Republican, all the way! That's great news about Canada, though. If Canada becomes first, it'll certainly give the American government a reality check.
I don't think America would do shit for legalizing marijuana here, even if it does get legalized in Canada. But I'm glad that Ron Paul has the balls to stand up for what he thinks, especially legalizing it.
Oh, I do agree completely with Ron Paul; but the reality of the situation continues to hit me, which is - that Ron Paul won't be on the ballot.
Looks like an election promise. =/ I worry about big government getting involved in cannabis cultivation and distribution anyways. Just another way to turn it into business.
I would be very very surprised if they followed thorugh on that, I just have trouble trusting any politician anyways. Doesn't matter, liberals wont be in power for a very long time.
Ya' know what? I wouldn't give a damn - let them DO THAT...IT WOULD KNOCK OUT THE NATIONAL DEFICIET. Legallizing marijuana would, oh, also help (us) mentally challenged AND physically challenged by CHEMO, as well as PTSS and just a damn host of other mental/emotional problems. The positive medical effects have basically BEEN PROVEN...and guess what...in Cali, I was told by a friend recently that ALL their dispensaries have been closed. Indeed - I would just love to know (or probably not cause it would make me ill) as to WHY THE HELL weed, an herb, is not legal.
I live like 2 miles from the border of Canada.... Thats like, Disneyland across the street. I CANT WAIT!
If this happens, I'm heading for Canada and never looking back because this shit would never go down in the bible belt.
