i wish i was more artistic... i really wish i was. i dont know, i get fustrated because i can't draw anything cool... is there any way to.... better my artistic abilities? meh, maybe art just isnt my medium...
art can be everyone's medium. contrary to what most people tend to think, anyone can create art. everything you create, even if it doesn't seem good, is art. if you draw a picture of a stick man, that's art, because you're still tapping into some idea and putting it down. that's at least what i think, anyways. even if you make mistakes, it's still art, and it's still a part of the process. don't be afraid to make mistakes. if you really want to get into it, check out a book called, "the New Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" by Betty Edwards. she's, i believe, and art teacher and she's taught many people who beforehand had barely ever drawn in their life, and she turned them into amazing artists. it's full of people's drawings, before the teachings and afterwards, to give you an idea of how good these people got. it's very informative, and could probably help you alot, if you're interested. also, you can check out the website she has, here's the gallery page with all the before and after comparisons: http://www.drawright.com/gallery.htm other than that, just keep at it.
You can do a lot of things that are very, very simple concepts that still look cool. Grab a piece of paper and make a few boxes or circles or any closed shape, then continue to fill it up with circles, they dont all have to be the same size, in fact I think it's better if they're not. Just don't go from super small to super big in on big jump, then it just looks akward. I'll send you a couple pictures of some of my art that shows styles similar to this later. Good luck and don't give up!! Also, a lot of times artists think their work looks absolutely terrible, while others think it looks amazing. Don't know if that helps at all but it's an encouraging thought at times.
One problem is over analyzing things. Just empty your mind, like in meditation, and let the art flow THROUGH you. I believe we are more like channels than originators. And though the channel leaves its mark on the product (the art) like a river bed shapes the river, the river doesn't originate in the riverbed. It originates everywhere (the water cycle). Anyways, they say talent is just a persuit you spend time at. That's a bad paraphrase, but I can't look it up because I can't remember who said it. The point is, you will always get better at something the more you do it, if you do it from a positive mind. Do it for the fun of it. Very few of us are going to become world famous artists, most won't even be professional artists. I sure as hell won't. But it's fun, so I do it. That's the best way. I think I may check out that book, though. Looks interesting.
Yeah. It's hard to let yourself go after being formalized to be uncreative your whole life. I used to have that trouble when I first tried to write music. I don't try to write it anymore. When I feel happy or sad about something I just let it come out of me and my hands just play what I feel. There is no writing for me. A really good song or piece of art seems as if no one wrote it but more like it was always there and someone just had to find it. .
i just get fustrated. lol some people tell me that talent with art is something you are born with, and if you arent graced with it, too bad. you are gunna suck at art.
just draw and paint what the heck you want! if you feel like drawing a square, then draw one. you might feel like splashing some red on too, so just put down some red paint...before you know it you'll have something pretty cool! and don't stress, just go with what you feel like doing. if you want to add a bit of control into it, then do your spontaneous painting thing (it's also pretty fun to use mixed media, like a bit of paint, some soft pastels, charcoal), and come back to it later, when you'll be able to look at it objectively and make it more pleasing to the eye, eg. if you've got a lot of stuff in one corner, you might want to balance it out. that's how i make my 'art' anyway give it a go, it's fun and pretty de-stressing
Oh, they aren't thinking positively. I used to think I could never write music but I could once I tried. .
Shaggie, I agree. Those people (who say talent is inborn) are wrong. Sure, some talent might be, but don't let those people stop you from doing your thing. All humans are naturally creative, if we allow ourselves the chance to express it
yeah and art can be anything that you feel expresses something from within you. i think 'talent' is just a synonym for 'charismatic'.
