yeah, like, i wont lie, i love attention. but who doesn't? I just hate stereotypical attention like that. I get it ALL the time from work. People automatically think they know exactly what i like, where i like to go and what i like to do, just cuz of how i dress. Sometimes, yeah...they're right...but like, when people find out i listen to hardcore and go to screamo shows, no one takes me seriously. it's annoying. but i'll get over it. today is just my day to vent, is all :)

to each his own. they'll get it soon. or, if they don't, allow them the time to meditate on why people might react a certain way to them. don't let em bother you too much; just be glad that you're you and that YOU don't act like that!

Firstly the pat on the head is very condescending. I would be pissed as well as annoyed. Tell her not to touch you. Sounds like shes got some fucked up energy anyway.

Man, I know how you feel!
All the time when I was in school, that used to happen. People used to come up to me and say, "what, are you trying to be a hippy?" THAT really made me mad.
There were a few times that people came up to me and asked if I dressed myself in the dark.
Another girl totally bitched me out one day saying that she hated me and all this crap just outta no where. A few weeks later I asked her what compelled her to do that, and she said, "oh, you just piss me off. I hate the way you dress. If you expect me to even aknowledge (sp?) that you're a person, you'd better start dressing differently."
That one happened about 4 or 5 years ago, and it still makes me mad to think that someone could actually be that rude.
But I've also got a lot of compliments on my clothes, so it makes it all better.

in band this one girl was like, "are you a hippie?" and i said, "i guess, it depends on your deffinition." "do you run around naked and do drugs?" "no" "the only hippie thing i like is unicorns, i dont know why i didnt ask if you were sooner." and then we started playing.
i dont know where she gets this stuff. grrr, i dont like her.

I've always worn the bohemian-ish shirts, ever since elementary and middle school before it was the style. Now that it's in style, people make a huuuuge deal out of it. That's why I don't really believe in labels like saying you're a hippy, because you can be one without dressing like one or dress like one without being one, but who's to say what you REALLY are? I hate labels. But yeah... The other day the stupidest person I've ever met in my ENTIRE life came up to me in French and said, "I would have never guessed that you smoke pot!" And I kind of gave her a look like wtf because I'd never smoke anything. She must have noticed me looking at her weird and said, "Well, you're wearing a hemp necklace so you MUST smoke!" Jesus Christ... Then again, this was the girl who asked me where Latin America was and why did I want to work there since I'm learning Spanish if they speak Latin. :p I only wish I was kidding... But still, I hate people that make assumptions based on clothing.

this past weekend at an after-party (after bar close) i arrived with a group of three other people - and all of us have dreads. this one guy at the party goes, "oh man! it´s like a secret socitey/elitist club of dreads!"
but then he wouldnt shut up about it. it´s not like us peeps with dreads are "zoo-worthy" and are like an attraction.

it just gets old, that´s all... (always receiving attention just b/c of my hair)

i actually think that's kinda funny, i would say something retarted like that in a drunken/drug induced state of mind, but i know what you mean, when people just carry on it gets really old. That's why i often find myself feeling like an idiot when i compliment someone with amazing dreads, because they probably get commented on CONSTANTLY and feel like a freak show everywhere they go. But i'm allowed- my boyfriend has dreads....and all i have to say is "ahh my boyfriend would kill for your hair" and they laugh, and it's all good!! :)

Me,too! Gaaa, that's annoying. Mine is long and naturally curly...and people always want to touch it and they will grab a lock and pull it down, just to watch the curl bounce back when they let go. I feel really weird when someone does that. I should grab their face and start counting their teeth or something lol....maybe they would stop then :D

    I know how you feel!
The best thing that works is when they start to rub your belly, rub theirs. They usually get confused at first, then get all embarassed and stop. It's kinda funny.

it shouldn't matter to me but the hippy/boho thing I've been rocking since I was a baby is now EVERYWHERE, everywhere I look. Suddenly I get people coming up to me asking where I got this and that and offering to buy it when I tell them it's vintage. It's like hang on a minute, why would you think I would want to sell you strangers the clothes I'm wearing? It's rude, and whilst I suppose we should all take it as compliment, I find it really embarrassing.

Once, when I was in New York, a woman asked if I would take a picture with her son.

Also, after seeing me for the first time in two years, my mother asks me "Jacquelineeeee, you don't want peeople to sink you're a heeepeee, do you? Let me buy you some new closinks."
