Hey girls, Does anyone have any good make-up tips? I always have trouble finding the right shade of blush... I'm so pale, so I like to wear blush so that I don't look like a vampire (no offense to gothic chicks lol that just isn't my thing). Also, I'd love to try the dark-eyeliner thing, but it never looks good on me. Is it possible I have the technique wrong? Is there a wrong or right way to use the dark stuff? I bought a beautiful charcoal eyeliner and haven't used it... but I'd love to. My usual style is bright, which I love. Purple eyeshadow with shimmers and purple eyeliner. But sometimes I feel like being a little more sophisticated. So c'mon, who's got some good tips??
How do you usually put your eyeliner on? Have you tried using a bright color and a black or grayish color? If you blend them nicely it can look sophisticated yet casual.
Hmm blending... I think I'd like to try that! Thanks juicy! The liner I use right now is sort of a periwinkle colour.. like a combo of purple and blue. It's sparkley and light.. maybe a combo would work nicely I can't wait to try! I'm getting so bored with my look... I know it's shallow but I want to be pretty... ok I'm gonna go hide now cos that's the stupidest thing I've ever said ...
Well, speaking as a ridiculously pale girl.... I can't find a blush that doesn't make me look garish either. but, c'est la vie... I don't really like having stuff on my face personally As for eyeliner, I only really put it on my upper lashes... putting it under my eyes makes me look ridiculously bad.. I kinda brush the lower lashes with it so there's a little darkness, but that's it. I really like grey's and golds these days. Especially a very dark grey right ontop of hte eyeliner and a little above, then a really soft almost sparkly grey above it, then a silver right under my eyebrows (helps open your eyes up, or so the theory goes) You could always go to a makeup counter and ask if they give free makeovers, or make up tips... they can often help you find the right makeup too if you get a good sales person (I've had a lot say "oh, you just need to look around. Here's the display, knock yourself out", but I had one lady help my find the -perfect- lipstick. I love it. clinique black honey, well, more of a gloss than true colour but rowr!)
i also love makeup i love black eyeliner, but i honestly cant pull off the smokey eye look. so i keep away from dark shadows. i like lighter ones, like gold, nudes or shimmery. its kinda hard to describe technique, but keep lighter near the lid and darker in the crease. and realy blend it, it helps having good brushes. how do you put the eyeliner on anyways?? oh, and i find that putting mascara on with the eyeliner brings it all togther if that makes sense....
im scared to do one of those free make overs. i know they get really pushy in buying the products theyve used on you, and some even require you buy a minimum percentage of what they have used. good makeup technique comes with practise, youll get the hang out it and whatever works best for you.
You know, a year ago I would have felt the same way about saying that. But I've come to realize that, as long as that is not your main focus in life or the most important way to gauge your self worth or any of that, there's nothing wrong with feeling that way. As for make-up, I have no idea. I need serious help in that department... Luckily, I have a friend who has a friend who is a Mary Kay lady! This friend is one of those girly-girl types, so I told her whenever she is in the mood to play with make-up, call me! One of these days...
When I do a dark eye, what I do is i mix red and black. First I put on a red eyeshadow, covering all my eyelid. Then, in the crease of my eye, I put a line of black eyeshadow and shade it all together with my finger. Then I put on black eyeliner on the top and bottom of my eyes. Lastly, I finish it off with waterproof black mascara. It gives you a really smokey, sexy look. It might be too much for you, depending on your coloring, etc. But it's fun to experiment, so you might wanna try it out...
That might be a bit far from her friend's stash of Mary Kay samples! But, hey, you're officially invited our next "girly party"! Another of my friends is a hair stylist (tho she rarely works during the semester)... So we invited all of the women from the department I'm majoring in (mostly grad students plus a few of the more involved undergrads, plus a few non-anthropology friends) & play with make-up & hair & watch silly chick-flicks.... I missed the first one cuz of cramps (even tho it was my idea ), so I'm looking forward to another one next semester! Apparently a couple of my non-girly friends (as in, knew about as much as I do now about such things) got great advice on make-up & bought a whole bunch of stuff at the last one.
never feel bad for something you really feel! as far as beauty goes, one can be just as easily overboard on not trying as on trying. seek the happy medium i used to be totally anti-makeup but i see it as a fun thing these days as far as eyeliner, i've never really used it on my upper lashes, just below. the EASIEST by far to make look right are the pencil kind - because of the, as someone mentioned before, blending potential. outline right under your eyelishes, then smudge it up toward your eye with your finger. i use dark green, black, dark silver, and dark brown ( i have blue eyes ). liquid liners are much more difficult and starker, as i bet you know! i think the blending will fix any problem you were having. i've never tried blush actually. well actually the only thing i ever wear is eyeliner and mascara, and the occasional neutral eyeshadow just to get a littler glittery. be wary my advice. haha
I always get the lightest and most neutral shades I can find because i'm pale and can look like a whore really easy if I don't go light on it. when you buy it they'll teach you how to put it on though.
Um with the eye liner, its best not to apply it on the inside of your bottom eyelid as it makes your eyes appear smaller than they actually are. If your going for the casual look, i'd go for Browns, Bronzes and Charcoal colours. When applying the eyeliner, apply it to the very top of your eyelid just above your lashes, go corner to corner if you wish, its up 2 you really. If your using liquid eyeliner i suggest using pencil eyeliner 1st and then going over it with the liquid liner cos it hides the crookedness of your lines LOL. If you want to put some on the bottom eyelid, start from the outer corner and work your way in, making sure that its just a very fine line on the very edge of the lid, like where your lashes grow out of the eyelid, that area. doesnt even have to be very visible at all. Go from corner to corner if you want. With the eyeshadow, i find the liquid stuff that drys into a powder to be awesome. use that to go over top of the eye and someof the eyeliner (its good for covering up your mistake with eyeliner aswell) And you can kinda blend the rest of the eyeliner and the eyeshadow in together if you want. It sort of creates the smokey effect. Because your quite pale, You should try a gold eye shadow. Do you use foundation? If you do, apply this to your whole face and neck if ya want, even on your eyelids like a eye shadow and under you eyes. Once thats all done, apply your masscara, to the top lashes and bottom if ya want to. water and smudge proof is the best. And makeup is easily removed with baby oil or makeup remover. i just had this random thought about the colour of your blush, try finding a colour that is the same or a lighter colour than your lips. dont know if it'l work but if it does let me know. hope it helps.
Woah missy you're a load of information! Wow! Thanks I'm definitely going to try during the holidays, especially if anyone gets me a gift certificate to MAC. Your tips for liner were excellent Thank you!
For blush for really pale skin take a look at Nars "Orgasm"...yes, that is really the color name! Or Stila "Hint". I would stay away from black eyeliner if you are pale and also anything liquid. They would look too harsh against your pale skin. You can use any eyeshadow as a liner...just wet your liner brush with water, run it over the eyeshadow and apply. It will not hurt your eyeshadow to get it wet. MAC has some great colors...Look at Shroom, Patina, Bark, Vapor, Vex and Club eyeshadows. MAC Paints are awesome...Stilllife, Graphito is a great liner. I am a HUGE makeup junkie! There is a ton of great info on the messageboard at: www.beautybuzz.com
hey guys plz help me i don;t know how to do make-up or how to even put on so could anyone plz give me advice on how to do it.I don't even know what colors to wear.Plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz help me.
Ok, Sweet, I'll help. First, what color are your eyes and hair? Do you have fair skin or dark skin. Do you look best in blue, pink, green colored clothes, or do you look better in orange, yellow, etc.? That will tell you something about the tone of your skin...red/pink undertones vs. yellow/olive undertones. This helps determine the colors of lipgloss. blush, etc that would look best on you. Lipgloss is more fashionable than lipstick right now. Cream/gel blush looks more natural, but if you have acne you must stick with a powder blush. The creams and gels would just soak into the zit mark and make it more red. Let me know about your coloring and then we will go from there, ok?
