Hey, i'm rosie. I'm new-ish to forums and I suppose it's because most sites have not appealed to me and made me want to join/post. Plus, I use the computer for other things mainly. I found this site because around my friends or in college classes like Philosophy or religious studies-when I show my view or approach a situation how i usually do- The majority of the time I get told, in a jokey way, ' you're such a hippie' or ' I think you belong in the sixties' and so on. I don't really mind it and thought 'why is it seen as a strange thing and pointed out as though it is a funny/silly or even bad thing?' I never really thought of what the word Hippie meant, is it about flowers in your hair, hugging trees, smoking green? So, good o'l Google came to mind. This was the site which appeared and I read through it. What a lovely discovery, When reading The Way Of The Hippy. All my life i have believed in freedom, peace, love and a respect for others and the earth. And over the past year or two i have thought that I'm quite alone in how i see life, and my views. No one else seemed to understand, or chose not to understand. This was fine with me, I love that people are different. However, when friends caused conflict or someone acts nasty towards another in a bitchy way. I could not understand why this pain needed to be caused, it can damage the soul. And i would try, still try to make peace. This site helped me to see that there ARE people who believe in freedom, peace and love(and much more). Yes! And now if i am called a Hippie, whether it be by a friend in a jokey way or a narrow-minded boy in Philosophy class. I know what it means, and I will sit there and smile.... Freedom, Peace and Love. ''The way of the hippie never died. There have always been hippies from the first time society laid down rules, to Jesus, to Henry David Thoreau, to John Lennon, to you and me. I believe there’s a little hippy in all of us. It’s just been repressed by our socialization process. We need to find it and cultivate our hippie within. Only then can we reach our true potential.'' - Skip Stone I think.. After all, I'm ok you're ok. no one is higher, no one is lower. I accept your view though i may not have that view myself. And like i have always done, i will show you respect. I'm not going to curse my friends or anyone for telling me what they think about certain views i share, there is no need and no urge to. If they want to call me a hippie, they should go ahead and do it. I have lived and live my life the way i feel is right, and found that actually.....I can be called a hippie, I never knew i was until i actually Looked into the meaning of the word, The history. Maybe i would have felt at home in the 1960s. I am looking forward to finding out about other people and their experiences, their views and discussing many, many things. Sorry guys, that is actually quite bloody long :-\ Anyway, hope you're alright and have a good evening XxX Ro
Hey OldTroll, I would love to help bring the sixties into this century. it would be great I think slowly this century is changing, and people becoming more open, but i don't know what could cause a wave of positive change. I hope that the sixties will come back, it would be different. would be good to talk to you more about things sometime xx
