After losing faith in another message forum because the forum went from an intelligent place to have a chat to a tabloid readers place to vent their spleen I found this place. Great, I thought. Smart folk once again, intelligent thinking is in the majority. Time for some friendly banter with a fellow intelectual. So I challenge doktoratomic by levelling a charge that he uses insultive and offensive text too often. The reality is that I can't blame him, trying to reason with the likes of treehouse is like trying to nock a wall down with your head - you get nowhere and it gives you a headache. But the debate of whether or not an ideology is furthered or hindered by causing offence will surely come from it, amongst other things. But, low and behold, he launches straight into an attack on me, judging me to be some hippy who has judged him badly. What is it with these places? Regardless of your political standpoint and your ideology, are these places really just an outlet for people who want to argue to do it in relative safety from behind a computer screen? Is there a forum out there where one doesn't have to fall out with folk and resort to insults even when friendly banter was all that should have been on the cards? Dok. very sorry if I have upset you. Very sorry that you took it the wrong way. Dunno if that was my fault in communicating badly, or your fault for misunderstanding what was meant when you read my text. Probably a bit of both. Cheers, disapointed.
That's a little inaccurate to say the least. I think you'll find there was some fairly loaded criticism levelled at me on your part before I "launched into an attack" on you. And frankly, there wasn't much launching or attacking - just disagreeing, No big deal. It probably was a bit of both, and if you could take a step back for a minute and stop pushing so hard I'm sure we'd be able to sort it out.
I have a problem here ... I feel over responsible as it was me who showed you this forum. I would say that when you see an argument, without seeing the amount of history that has gone before, its very difficult to get the full picture and make a proper educated judgement. Dok is a good man ... I think you are too. Misunderstandings happen on message boards because people can't express the emotion behind the typed word as well as they would when they say something face to face ... that's why we have smileys, they compensate a little for the inadequacies of typed discussion. but... I have actually lost faith. Tonight! I approach everyone I meat or speak to with an assumtion that they are decent folk. I am prepared to be proved wrong. Sometimes I am, sometimes not. But at the heart of my perception is the assumtion that inside everyone is a decent person. Sometimes that person has been stifled or poisened, but with the right surroundings/opportunities that decency will prevail. But, most folk seem to approach a conversation/social path crossing/contact with any other person with a defensive air based on an assumtion that most folk are out to either get you, or do better than you, or to get something from you. This is why folk tend to operate in cliques or circles of friends. But I find that a very typical way of thinking bred by a capatilist state like ours. My was is far more suited to a socialist way. Not talking the essentials of the ideologies, just as a general gist. and.... mi faith is going....................
It's not worth anyone getting upset about Dok and Col I am sure that its nothing serious and just a misunderstanding. I am the first to get embroiled in an argument and have had more than my fair share on this and other forums. The main thing is, it shouldn't get personal. In the heat of an argument we tend to get carried away ( I certainly do ) and it is only resolved when one side backs down or extends a peace offering. Same thing happened to me on this very same forum with a person who is just as much of an argumentative shit as I am. Thats like a red rag to a bull. It doesn't really matter who started it - its who finishes it that really wins. I lost my last argument because I held out too long and left it to the other party to make amends. That only shows that in the end they were more sensible and stronger about it than I was. Compliment each other and move on - one day I might be old enough and wise enough to use this strategy myself

Christ, there are worse forums. This one is fairly well-populated with diverse people, and doesn't decent into the kind of lamentable cliquism and stale ego-massage that you tend to get when forums are close-knit. Count your blessings.
I think we are a wonderful community...and it would be quite plain and boring if we didnt have the odd heated disscussion. ... now i must admit Dok does occasionally take heated to Magma every now and then but .... there we go
