I very much want to be a vegitarian again for various ethical and personal reasns, but have a problem... the last time I tried this I lost alot of weight, very quickly, a stone in a month to be precise... While this may sound benificial to some, to me it isnt, Im tiny as it is hehe, I just seem to be one of those people who finds it extremely hard to keep weight on. I ate more when I was veggie but still lost weight despite myself =( If anybody has any ideas of how I can have the diet I want without becoming a walking skeleton Id be infinateley grateful ^.^ Peace love empathy, Sarah.
Make sure you get plenty of high fat foods. Avocados, Lots of Oil, Cheese if you're not vegan. If you keep the fat up you won't lose so much weight. Kathi
Nuts and seeds have a lot of good fats too. But it really depends on how much food and calories you eat in general, not necessarily fat, so just make sure to eat enough food! Have a lot of sides with your meals and snack on things.
one of my co-workers the other day thought that people actually gained weight when they went veggie ~_~ only the best and brightest at McDiabetes! any who, like magical fire lady said, i dont think its about fats, i think its about balance. try to include as many food groups as possible. also, dont skip meals, but i think thats obvious. (i tend to skip breafast as many people do, which is a major problem because that fuels you for the entire day!) well good luck!
Thanks for the advice, Ill definatley try some of the tips, avocado and nuts sound delicious... I was also thinking about keeping fish in my diet to start with, then gradually eating less to see how that goes... This could make a good new years resolution for me ^.^ xx
What was your veggie diet like before? Meat has a lot more calories than fruits and vegetables, so to maintain the same calorie intake you need to eat a lot more. Have more food with your meals and/or eat throughout the day. You can also eat more high calorie foods, like those mentioned, as well as eating more beans. They will give you protein as well as more calories.
Hmmm, the above post looks like spam. Joy. Anyway, it sounds like you & I have similar body types. I am just a tad underweight and always have been, but going veg didn't seem to change that much. I just have to eat more food (it might help to visit with a nutritionist to find out how many calories you need in a day). It helps to eat several small meals throughout the day instead of just a few large ones. Also, don't forget to exercise often. Muscle weighs three times as much as fat, and working out regularly should help you reach & keep your ideal weight. I've done a little research on nutrition and have also heard that to gain weight if you're slender, there are plenty of plant foods with healthy fats, as mentioned above. Avacados, nuts & nut butters, beans, whole grains, olive oil & hemp seed oil (or plain hemp seeds) are all good sources of fats.
"It helps to eat several small meals throughout the day instead of just a few large ones. " That would be if you are trying to lose weight.
not sure but maybe sometimes age and other stuff has a bit to do with it, the metabolism slowing down. I know I was always a skinny minny however since having my daughter and being a few years older even though I eat much the same I definitely put on weight easier...pastas, dairy, breads and rice, carby foods I would think are the ones that are contributing here. I have started going to the gym too however and I find that the more weight bearing exercise I do the heavier I am however the healthier I look. good luck and give it a go!
i lost a lot of weight when i first went vegan, but converting from omni to vegetarian initially didnt effect my weight all that much. i was never heavy, just big, but i lost 40 pounds over the first 6 months i was vegan. i think a fair ammount of it was muscle mass, as im skinny now and before i was more muscular. its a fair enough trade off, i have lots more energy and feel good so i dont mind too much. i snack on nuts and fruit and things in between meals to try and keep it steady now.
I figured out a solution for you! Just get married and you will probablky gain about 20lbs. Not sure why this happens but seems to be commonplace.
try eating balanced meals rather than just alot of fats because alot of fats are not good for u if thats all u eat.
Lol!!! my hubby would agree....although its because i feed him real food as opposed to the "bachelor food" he used to eat like mac and cheese and top ramen
Right since new years Ive decided to give being veggie another go, and guess what? Ive lost hardly any weight so far! Yay!!! I thinks its mostly due to the tips you guys have given me so thanks loads guys... eating lots of pasta, potatoes, and the stuff like avocados and nuts... Ive discovered im addicted to avacodo lol, and tofu is lush ^.^ Ive decided to keep dairy in my diet for the time being too, I think thats helping lots, Thanks to all you guys, Im so happy its working this time!
