'Then the Lord God said 'Now the man has become like one of us'

Who is he talking to? I always find this verse one of the most interesting if the Bible. Would love a Christian perspective on what you guys think!

By attaining the knowledge of good and evil, man had become like God (the Hebrew word for God is plural, hence the use of the plural pronoun), just as the serpent had said (Gen. 3:5).

But he had also acquired a "sin nature" something that God doesn't have and the serpent neglected to mention. This meant that man now had knowledge of everything evil with no restraint against acting on it. The two different words translated "naked" in Genesis 2:25 and 3:10 tell the story. In 2:25 before the fall, the root word means naive or empty. Afterward in 3:10 it means cunning and crafty. In trying to become like God, they had actually become like the serpent.

If man also attained eternal life there would be no limit to the damage and destruction. Making man mortal placed limits on his capacity for evil without depriving him of his autonomy. He could still choose redemption, as long as he did so during his mortality.

And Man is trapped in a perpetual state of sin, with no hope of freeing himself. It's why we need a savior.

So if it is indeed plural, who does it reffer to?

Even when I was Christian I did not believe in the Trinity, God is definatley speaking to the Angels or Jesus here.

If you did not believe the trinity it is pretty tough to be a Christian.

Also, Jesus is part of the trinity.

Well if you believe that God is speaking to Jesus, then you believe in two thirds of the Trinity. Your getting close.

The idea that the reference is hebrew in origin may or may not be true dependent on which bible you are referring to.
The word "god" is traced back to "ghut" which is early germanic meaning "that which is invoked" from "guthan"
so really it can only be god referring to others that can be invoked. IE other deities. God does after all say thou shall have no other god but me, implying that there are other gods. Which means god himself is probably Apollo. Since during the 2nd century the bible did not exist outside of Greece and it underwent a transformation and incorporated many elements of the Greek culture and its gods

Well Christian belief supports the three in one God. The Old Testament supports at the very least more than one person in the Godhead. Also When God said let US make man in OUR image He could not of been speaking of angles. And the reason for this, is because the God of the Old Testament said He made all things alone and by Himself. The Angles had no part in creation. And this belief is supported in both the Old and New Testaments.

Elohim is not the Hebrew word for "Us" so this point is actually irrelevant. I agree with what campbell and JesusDiedForU have already said, God no where in the Bible shares the act of creation with anyone else. The "Us," I think, refers to the Trinity.

How limited your thoughts are. Why is it so difficult for you to grasp that other gods exist? They are referenced throughout the old testament. The "us" refers to the other gods, that we had become self-aware, as they are. And yes, I know, I can spend eternity in purgatory for considering such things.

Good thing I'm not a christian, eh?

Those other Gods you speak of are the same God's Pharoh followed... Look where it got him?

God stated he created the earth BY HIMSELF... If it was with other God's then it would not be by Himself and therefore God would have lied!

He also states that there are no other God's before him.

OK, so maybe the Christian God did, in fact, create the heavens and the earth. By Himself. JDFU I'm not disputing that becaus this isn't the time nor the place. What happened to the Pharoahs and the Ceasars is of absolutely no consequence to me. If you want to place the logical fallacy of "after the fact, ergo because of the fact" on me, you're wasting both our time.

But when he said to Moses, "I am the Lord, Thy God. Thou shalt place no other gods before me..." He admits there are other gods. In Exodus He admits twice (20:5 and 34:14) that He is a jealous god. This is tantamount to admission that other gods exist, but He is the only One you are allowed to believe in. If He is the only god, there is no reason to be jealous. And I have no problem with that, you are allowed to believe whatever you wish to believe, whatever you find true in your heart.

Although the tone is a little harsh I cant find anything wrong with the ideas here. and would agree entirely with the logic of it. Why does it seem so dificult for christians to accept this? When plainly and simply their bible tells them the truth?
what threat to christian logic is this?

as opposed to the commandments of? another god perhaps?

The Ten Commandments were the foundation of the faith. When God say there should be no other God's before me he is talking about Idol worship or ANYTHING placed in front of God. Ultimately, if there are any other God's they are Satan. The God of Pharoh was Satan although pharoh was blind to that. Pharon lost and God won!

If there is a another true God. Then the Bible is false. The only other Gods is Satan in dusguise.
