I'm concerned about the job market right now. Gotta make a living somehow, and I don't want to cut my hair. What are your thoughts on this? Are most businesses really that worried about males' hair length?
I think it depends alot on the type of job. If it's a more laid back atmosphere it wouldn't matter as much. Then of course, there are safety/health concerns in some places...I knew of a longhair guy that got his hair caught in a car's fanbelt while he was checking the engine...wasn't pretty. What are you thinking of doing,Whispering?
If you wanna make better than minimum wage, you're going to want to cut your hair. Otherwise, McDonalds is hiring.
I don't know what I want to go into, yet. Figure I have some skills in programming, music & audio tech. I thought a biologist's job sounded cool though. Still thinking about everything.
I had long hair for two years and couldn't get a job anywhere. Two months after I cut it, I got a job. I think the easiest way to go would probably be to cut it now, then grow it out once you get the job.
if you do have problems cut your hair just enough to get away with and then just grow it out again after you get the job
i was doing web page design for a non proffit that did hosting & design for other local non proffits, i was mannaging over 200 volunteer web page designers in an office setting & meeting with the heads of all the local organizations i also found out the network admin for 1 of the local colledges had dreads even longer then mine it depends on where your looking for jobs, also, if your willing to work the night shift often they are far more accepting of unique styles also, 1 of my ex's works in a court house, doing parole reviews mostly for sex criminals, & they let her work barefoot, with no bra or panties, hair past her butt & smellin like patchouli some places may discriminate, but chances are, the places that wouldnt care would be far better places to work anyways
The type of work I want to do wouldn't be classified as "working for myself" heheh.. Unless of course, I have a breakthrough of some sort.
though your hair doesn't look messy when it gets long, unlike mine. so it shouldn't even be a problem.
just tie it back when you interview. make it look tidy and such ps, i thought that society was over the whole 'discriminate against the longhairs' thing. hell, even pple with dreadies work in some pretty straight jobs around here.
I agree and that's what I did - I will never cut my again. Plus I make more now then when I worked for some ass hole who rated me on my hair. Long or Short!
I've had long hair for years and never had problems with anyone discriminating against me because of it. I recommend keeping it neatly trimmed and pulling it back into a tail when you are at work.
Depends on how bad they want you - I have never had problems with the hair - but I have been able to put R.N. after my name which makes a difference. If I had to look for a job with no training or skills, I suspect there would be a trim in my future (grin)
