Hi I am looking for some EASY long skirt pattern. I am really beginner, so it must be very very easy. Can I find it somewhere on Internet? or can you send me some? Thanx Elanor
There are some really simple patterns available. It's not too hard to draw your own, but I know that I couldn't figure out how to do that until I had followed some regular patterns first. Check out www. simplicity.com. I also have tons of patterns, I could send you one. If you are interested, pm me.
you really don't need a pattern, exactly what kind of skirt do you want to make, A-line, wrap around, straight? PM me and I can explain how to make those without a pattern, they're super simple :0)
yeah, that broomstick skirt I think is only simple if you have a serger and a gathering attachment, otherwise gathering can be a real pain in the butt. For a super simple skirt, just do a basic A-line skirt. Just decide how long you want it (for myself, I make them 36 inches long) then decide how big you want the waist, plus about 6 inches if you're gonna do a drawstring, and then decide how big you want the bottom to be, so for the sake of this, say your waist is 30" (so 36" inches with drawstring aded), and you want it to be 70" at the bottom. now, cut those mesurements in half, and cut 2 pannels of fabric 18" at the top and 35" at the bottom. The tricky part is this, you have to measure the bottom first, and then center the top acordingly, so that when you cut it all out, you have 2 pieces of fabric shaped like this: -------/-------\ ------/---------\ -----/-----------\ ----/-------------\ ---/---------------\ (minus the part on the far left) make sense? then stich them together, hem the bottom, stick your drawstring in the top, and voila, simple long skirt. If you want to get fancy you do a few different fabrics, or stick a gathered peice at the bottom for extra spin. good luck!
thanx paix. That made it a lot easier to understand. The crappy thing is that I really like that gathered look, though. I don't have a sewing machine yet, but I wanna get one asap. I'm pregnant right now, and I wanna make my own maternity clothes (they're so bloody expensive, even second hand) and I wanna learn how to make some clothes for me babe. Thanx for that explaination....it really helped. I figured that I had most of it figured out in my head (that's what I do w/ almost everything that I do), but sometimes I don't realize something that I missed, and everthing gets messed up. Now I have it in writing....no excuses this time!!! lol:& What's a seger though? And how does a gather work? I'm still kind of a "virgin" to this kinda stuff. Never had a sewing machine growing up, but I really wish that I had, so I missed all this stuff.........
You can get the gathered look by making the top of the skirt bigger. In the example above there was a 36 inch waist. So make it like 45 or 50 inches and then put elastic in the waistband to gather it up. Or you can actually gather the fabric quite easily. Just use the longest stitch you have, like a basting stitch. Leave long threads at the end. You can then gently pull the top thread to gather the material. When you have the gathers the way you want them stitch it down with a regular length stitch. Then put in either elastic waist or drawstring. It's really easier than it sounds. I also use more than two panels, usually four or six. You can alternate fabrics or however you want. Just divide the waist measurement by the number of panels. Do the same for the bottom measurement. Kathi
no worries hun, happy to help, any time you have questions let me know and I'll be more than happy to help you out if I can! gathering will definatly help with maternity clothes, so they can grow with you, and just follow dakota's mom's instructions for gathering, it's really easy once you get the hang of it, just takes a little time and paitence. good luck mama!
thanx, that really helped. I love draw strings, and the more that I think about it, that would be really simple. Thanx! ...................................i just bit my tounge.......ouch...............
