Okay, not LONG long, but, I will be going further than I can go in one day, and I cannot afford a place to stay in the interim

what is a good way to do this?

I will probably end up somewhere between (or in) salem and portland oregon, latish at night.

    thoughts?

I'm probably leaving too soon for couch surfing to be an option.

i sometimes pull into the rest stop and sleep on a cot or in my car.

i just finished a round trip from Florida to Michigan. i left in the evening and drove through the wee hours of the night. around 7am i switched out with my mom.

bring a tent and squat a state park is another option.

What kind of vehicle do you have? If you're in a van, there's always the Wal-Mart parking lot. State parks are also an option, if you have a little money and can't sleep in your car.

    This sounds a dodgy idea.

The only things I can think of:
    Don't go.
    Get there in daylight.
Take a tent and a baseball bat...ouh! and a torch.

    1. green lantern insignia rocks.
    2. okay, I am going to look into state parks in that area, see about pitching a pup tent. it sucks that where I think I am going to end my day of driving (based on my long distance driving of the past) is an urban area

    3. 2000 saturn SL1, tiny sedan. GREAT gas mileage though. fold down back seats, I could probably sleep halfway in the trunk.

would you want to be on the same road as an epileptic fueled by caffeine?

OOH! OOH! Between Salem & Portland? See if there's a hot springs with free or cheap camping nearby. Wake up & have a morning soak.
