OK, here's the deal! My son locked me out of my Account by mistake changing the password to it on my Windows XP. I was told to press F8 at the Start Up screen and then start the computer in Safe Mode, log in as the administrator then open user accounts and change the password back. However when I open User Accounts, a window pops up in front of it saying "Internet Script Error" and it won't let me do anything. I have also heard about the re-installing windows in my CD-Rom. This would be fine if I had a Cd Rom. My IDE slot is screwed completely and I can't install a new CD-Rom. If somebody could help me, it would be greatly appreated, Thanks alot. Does anybody know what those "Internet Script Errors" are? What are they from, what for? and is there anyway to get rid of them so I can go into my User Accounts? If there is no way, then could somebody please say so instead of no replies. Thanks people :)

    Not a fix, but a possible work-around...

Find out if there's a linux user's group in your area, and if so, it's likely someone would help you install linux instead. Many such clubs have "install fests," where people bring in their PC's to have linux installed on them. I can pretty much guarantee that if you make contact with such a group, they'll move you in a much better direction.

Not having a CD-ROM shouldn't matter, it wouldn't faze linux geeks a bit (I would not really count myself as one, however).

I love how all computer nerds use every opportunity they can find to tell people to install linux.

How the hell is that a "work-around" even? He still wont be able to get in his WINXP stuff.

Look for OPHCrack on the net. It's a bootable that finds your password.

i said nm cause i posted a solution without reading your problem completely :)

no the easiest workaround is not to install linux lol.

try booting into safe mode and then accessing the user accounts through the management console:

safe mode boot, start > run > mmc then go to file > add/remove snap-ins and then click the add button. from there select local users and groups then ok back to the mmc window. once there select users from the right pane and edit as needed. once you gain access back to your computer i suggest installing nod32 and some form of malware scanning (ie: adaware). once completed i suggest mitigating such problems with prevx1 or the similar.

    hope it helps :\

I didn't "tell" him to do anything, I suggested that he contact people who may be able to assist him. His software vendor, the actual responsible party, has clearly indicated that they have no solution.

But don't worry, I won't make any further suggestions. I promise.

How the hell is that a "work-around" even? He still wont be able to get in his WINXP stuff.

I don't think he asked how to retrieve the data, I think he asked how to take a large paperweight and turn it back into a PC.

Look for OPHCrack on the net. It's a bootable that finds your password.

I hope that works out for him.

Did you consider people may take being called a "computer nerd" into offence? Atleast said "nerds" are attempting to help. :)

Well, it's true. I can bet you in almost 95% of the threads posted in the computers forum have someone trying to peddle Linux.

OPH Crack really is the best bet, I use it too. Problem is that it's a big file (+400mb), maybe there's some way to put it on a flash drive and make it bootable?

Thank you for telling me that.

Anyways you could just do a system rollback, it makes everrything go back to the exact same settings as it was on a certain day you choose.

Yep, system restore might work. Start in safe mode, click start button, goto "run". Type "msconfig" (no quotes,) hit "launch system restore." After that, it's pretty self explanatory.

Just out of curiosity, why did the kid change your password? And why can't he remember it?

This is why you always log out or lock the system.

Make sure each person in the house has their own user name and password. Be sure that everyone but the computer owner has "Limited" access.

yes and especially give kids limited accounts so they can't download harmful things and delete important drivers.

I know since my dad made me a limited user the computer has ran a lot faster lol.

Is anyone planning on actually helping instead of arguing?

Try pushing alt+control+delete two times fast when it takes you to login prompt. It should let you in.

    Computer says no.

Additional: reboot computer and then press f3. Perhaps you tried to load a dodgy firewall. Tis happened to me. I had to delete the free firewall and I could only do that by pressing f2 or f3 just before windows loaded up.

IDE slot? Do you mean your IDE controller, IDE interface, CD-ROM bay/slot, CD-ROM drive? I certainly hope it isn't one of the first 2 things I listed. So tell me what you are talking about.

As for the Internet Script Error's. That is just another bug in Microsoft's Explorer app. No big surprise. You probably have a virus, or worse. Virus scanners don't protect from everything. It's like safe sex, a person could still catch something or a baby could happen even when using protection.

Read a little here and see if anything works.
