Man I gotta buncha live shows dld to my comp. I've noticed for a long time that they're never as loud as stuff ripped from cd's or albums I dld. I guess jsut cuz they're live. So absically the deal is when my media player and speakers are at full volume, my live shows are always quieter than other stuff. Anybody know a nifty program I can get to fix this, or some setting I can play with?
Well, the reason that's so is because the live shows aren't mastered (compressed). When you listen to a studio-recorded CD, the final mixes are compressed to make them extra-loud (and it's often too loud). It wouldn't be wise to try and compress the live shows, and you can't uncompress the studio CDs, so I would just turn up the speakers when listening to live shows.
I just crank up the equalizer... you could also run it to a stereo or some sort of amp, or use a preamp/gain buffer deal. I've mic'd rooms to make better quality recordings, before, as well...
