Let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as He is righteous. I John 3:7
Thanks for the response. It has been so long since I posted that verse, It had slipped my mind. It's interesting that the flower in your sig has eight petals. That is my number, being the day of the year upon which I was born.
groovy. But I didn't get it. What does that quote have to do with little children? (sorry, having a blonde moment.)
You're right. It is very cool. When I found out that I could be just like Jesus simply by doing the right thing, I grew my hair long and sported a beard so I could look like him too.
How do you know Jesus had long hair and a beard? One of the disciples, His Mother, or even a barber could have cut his hair regularly. And he could have shaved (although thats less likely)... then there's St. Paul's words about long hair on men....
Let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as He is righteous. So... what is righteous? Everything? That's what God told me.
There's some pretty good evidence (if you can consider any of the evidence good) that Jesus (yosuah) was a member of the essene community. they were also called Nazerrenes (nothing to do with Nazereth) which meant that they never cut their hair of shaved their beards.
Hey Daniel, good point. Jesus said in a couple of places that children already had it down. Interestingly Toaism says the same thing, in fact "Lao Tzu" literally means "Grown child" or "Big boy". Maybe anyone who's too young to have been exposed to the whole idea of good and evil is still in the garden of eden.
IMHO the essene thing is dubious, mainly speculative. There is no hard evidence to connect Jesus to them.
Or, maybe, I just went for the apostolic look. It is enough that the disciple be like the master. As long as I am doing right. Everything is not right. There is a way that seems right, but only leads to death. When a person daily practices faith and spirituality, those qualities are built up like a muscle. Are you spiritually buff?
If you want to wear your hair long or short I don't think it makes much difference. It is only superficial anyway. It is what's in the heart that counts.
Lol! show me any evidence about Jesus or early christianity that isn't dubious. I've gotten to the point where I take it all with a grain of salt, but it's still fun to look at. As far as the "Jesus was an Essene" thing, as circumstantial evidence the peices fit rather nicely.
Anything filtered through dubious mentality will look dubious. No. It is better to get hammered than to get nailed. If one wears a white glove, and the third finger bulges where the ring is, then 'only superficial' really points to an underlying truth. As to whether or not Jesus had long hair, there is an ancient letter (purported to be by Paul) that describes Him. I don't remember the musem it is in, but it basically describes Him as 6 feet tall, ruddy, with chestnut colored hair that became "more orient" at His shoulders.
I don't think it matters about Jesus hair being long or short. St. Paul's evidence though could only be hearsay as he never actually met Him in the flesh.
Black, I think you're getting too worked up (step back and take a breath) I did not say it was important, I merely mentioned it in passing. Paul lived in Jesus' time, ans frequented Jerusalem. I think it likely Paul had seen him at least once.
