Hello, I am taking Information Technology program in college and I am in the Linux and Unix module of it right now. My school offers a multitude of certifiaction through microsoft, Cisco, CompTIA etc., I just checked and they don't offer a linux certification, but I would love to have a Linux cert on my resumé for when I go out into the job market next year. If I was to pay for it on my own, which one would be the best to take, like CompTIA's Linux +, or something like RHTC?? Has anyone here taken a Linux cert before?

I haven't taken a Linux cert test yet, but have some info. CompTIA Linux+ is in need of an update. If you know the old school basics, you should be ok for the Linux+.

Redhat is a good cert to have. It is expensive tho and I think you have to enroll in Redhat courses.

Suse/Novel Linux certification is another option. I don't have a lot of info on the cert process. This is one of the area's I was trained for. I found it pretty easy.
(having trouble finding good links to Suse cert)

There is also the CLE (Certified Linux Engineer) offered by Novel.

    Hi,

Major Linux distributors, including Novell and Red Hat, have their own certification programs, notes Jim Zemlin, executive director of the Linux Foundation. Employers come to the foundation seeking Linux talent and want to know if a candidate is qualified, he says: "They want to see a Good Housekeeping seal of approval, for lack of a better term, that's neutral and third-party." So the foundation offers the Linux Foundation Certified Developer certification and accompanying courses.

    thanks!

Hello, RHCE here. I'm going to recommend starting with Red Hat's RHCT training and certification and then moving on to the RHCE. What is your background and experience?

I realize I'm digging up an old thread here, but hey, it might be useful to someone else later.
