    institutionalism.. everything is done for you in a set way, or organized manner. breakfast, lunch, and dinner, sheets and towels will be handed out monday and thursday.. what more would you have to say in solitary?

    A lifelong vow of silence seems like a very counter-buddhist idea.

    That would be a cool life if you still did cool stuff all the time, and hopefully people would like you somehow lol.

    I think Buddhists would advocate that a silent mind is preferred to a silent mouth. Even if we don't speak, during meditation, there's still monkey-mind. You could say it's about learning to be attentive.
