i live in houston texas and tomorrow morning i'm just gonna pack a backpack with only important stuff and just walk away from it all, I'm not running away I just gotta do this. i'll come back home sometime. suggestions, tips anything please and thanks
fish hooks, wire, tie to sticks, unpolluted places have a lightweight tarp or something to put over you and your things during rain. make sure your pack is comfy... I always carry a knife when backpacking. provisions last a couple weeks unless I'm somewhere where I can eat wild. I also always carry a sling shot. Sorry birds. (Dumpster dive in the cities!) what else? always have lighters...I bring spices and herbs...tea is good, if you have a pot. or you can just get free hot water from babylon...people can be nice to backpackers...you also gotta watch out. Texas is a trippy place...I vowed never to go back there. You going out in the desert or what? Bring a pot or something to sterilize water. Journal, good pens. Flute? musical instrument of some kind. lots of love, and endurance. hope you have a fantastic journey (sleeping bag)
What part of houston are you from? And what direction are you headed? I plan to do the same thing come next summer. Maybe i can give you a ride out of the city if you need it, or give you good wishes.
if your hitching, just listen to you intuition when you meet a driver who will give you a lift, make sure you look 'em in the eye when you ask them where they are going. if it dont feel right, reject the offer. this is a good site to learn about living on the road and hitching digihitch.com
truckers are great to ride with, IMO and they take you to truck stops where you can meet other truckers!
bigtree, please at least walk back to a computer and update us all on your progress. I did the same thing as you...same thing. I came back 6 months later! lol.
