A study such as this just highlights typical patterns of behaviors and responses in humans under controlled conditions. Such a study is invariably going to have limitations, where the correlated outcome is not going to apply to every person under every condition.

 

I pointedly disagree with this. In a separate study, one concerning racism, trained and experienced police officers were the ones being experimented on. In a rapid fire, life or death scenario they had their weapons drawn and 'suspects' were flashed on some kind of screen in front of them. Anyway, what happened was a lot more innocent blacks got shot than innocent whites. The intriguing part is that it didn't matter what race the officers were; black officers also shot at the innocent blacks at a higher rate. Again, these were highly trained officers...they would never consciously kill an innocent bystander. Clearly, something is going on in the human mind that is worth investigation.

 

Agreed, but I still feel it gives useful insight into the human mind. All experiments are limited in some way; it occurred to me that all those in the sample where chosen from college students. Surely, they have much different values than those of the median age.

 

Definitely... I bring it up because there is usually a pushback against such studies by some. If the implications don't agree with their understanding or personal perception of a phenomena, they'll attempt to discredit it without really comprehending why the results might be the way they are.
