This is a French thriller, which is probably called 'Empire of Wolves' in the US. It's got Jean Reno in it and I don't miss any of his films. This was an excellent film to begin with. Like most French films it makes its audience work and it's difficult to understand what's happening. The pace is slow, but the atmosphere is diabolic. You're not sure at first whether you're watching a horror film, or a psychological thriller. All the actors, scenery and music were superb. Jean Reno's exiled cop makes Dirty Harry look positively clean. I'm not going to give the plot away, but what a pity they threw it all away in the end. It was as if they suddenly had better things to do, or the budget ran out. It's a shame. I rarely get disapointed with a French film, especially when its got the seal of Gaumont on it, and though this definately isn't a bad film, it could have been a classic. I wish that next time they would ask me to consult them with the script.
Hmmm, haven't seen it. Souds pretty cool, I'll try to check it out. Another Reno classic is The Crimson Rivers. I love Jean Reno's role in that movie. Also, Vincent Cassel does a pretty cool job, I used to see him always as the bad guy from Le Pacte Des Loups(The Brotherhood of the Wolf), but on this one he's great. Very interesting storyline as well, I recommend it to all.
