What is easier to learn? Knitting or Crocheting?

I am looking for a hobby while I am at home. I've made some jewelry but now I want to learn how to make scarfs, blankets, and poncho's.

I'm a complete beginner. What do you suggest I learn first? :)

Depends on who you ask... Some people say knitting.. some say crocheting... For basic stitches i would say crocheting... But with knitting there are only 2 stitches really knit and purl... Crocheting has sooooo soooo many.... I like crocheting better than knitting..... It get more fustrated with crocheting but I like the finished look better...

see my point..... Its really up to the person... go by the needles for both only a few bucks... and get 2 little how to books and some yarn.. try them both..

    Crocheting is easier for me.
I was taught how to when I was 14, but I later found out it was wrong. I've been told "knit 1, purl 1" over and over. I do it and it comes out as a weird squiggly, bumpy thing, instead of looking like a bunch of little "v"s, close up.
    good luck!

I like to crochet but all I can do are scarves and I can't keep them even. Knitting is not as hard to screw up. I never actually purl... just knit and knit and knit. I like it though.

they're both great. i found it easier picking up crochet....but then again, i'm left handed and the person teaching me to knit was right handed so there was a little bit of an added challenge.

To me they where about the same for learning. Like others say it depends on the person really.

  13. I can only crochet straight lines so I'm going to say knit

I learned how to crochet before i learned how to knit... and when i first started knitting, i would have said that crocheting is much easier.. but now that ive been doing it for a while, id have to say knitting is easier.

Tried to teach myself how to knit before, but I got confused somewhere in the mess of knots lol. I should try it again.........

Same here.. It took me almost 2 years to learn how to purl... But now I got it down... Its super easy once you figure out what to do... But figuring it out is hard (even though its the opposite of the knit stitch ... I still had major issues :))

i like both. i learned to knit first so i enjoy how comfortable i am with that, but I love how fast crocheting is. i love when you can see the results of your work right away!
