I've got this puny dial up connection, so I can't watch videos, but I was in Cleveland, in my early 20s when this happened. I was in a waffle house one morning when several National guardsmen were in for coffee and talking about it. They were itching for a confrontation.

The typical National Guardsman was conservative, while the demonstrators were very liberal. The politics of the time were such that liberals were painted as Communists, much like they are portrayed as Socialists today, and, of course, all Communists were following the party line of the USSR and trying to bring down America.

I also know that during those years Nixon had spies in the student organizations to stir up trouble and urge them on to do things they would not have done normally.

The general propaganda of conservatives (Nixon and company) at the time was that these were communist led demonstrations that were trying to help the communists (USSR) win the Vietnam war by having us surrender.

If you look closely you can find more than just a few parallels between these times and the Tea Party movement of today; and one could extrapolate that we are headed toward another bloody showdown between the two extremes of today's political landscape.
