found a bunch of info on a declutter site. Thought we could use it here:
to get off pre approved offers in the US, call 1-888-567-8688 or visit www.optoutprescreen.com (same stuff- gets your info off pre-approved credit/insurance lists for 5 years or a permanent opt out)

    other junk:
    http://www.dmaconsumers.org/consumerassistance.html

(the link was being picky with Mozilla Fire Fox)

anyone else know how to get off junk mail lists, snal and electronic?
    How about for other countries?

I called the 800 number way back when they first set it up, and its worked like a charm. Now we only get a few local junk calls, no national ones.

    Thank you,DrumminMama :)
I was just thinking about this recently...I called the 800# to be taken off the lists a few years ago but it's all starting again with the constant phone calls. I've never been able to get rid of all the junk mail.

If you get junk mail through the post they generally give you a free envelope in case you want their wares.

So what you do is get their form that they want you to fill in, shred it and then put it in their prepaid envelope and post it back to them.

    This costs them money.

:X hehe i would be v. tempted to do that gary, only i'm afraid they won't recycle it :(

When i moved into my current apt. i was receiving so much junk mail for the previous tenant. I called the 800 no. of each mailings/companies and notified them that their 'client' moved and i don't know where. Most of the companies have been pretty good at terminating the mailings. However my address, not my name, was still on some marketing database, the junk was addressed to several previous tenants. I called the CMA here in Canada, got the address off the list and i have NOT received junk mail since. Keep in mind that it took 3-4 months for my address to 'cycle off' the list but they lived up to their word.

I even received junk mail from Dell and they had complied with my requests :)

    cerridwen,
I have a "No Junk Mail" sign on my mail slot. This has reduced the amount going into my recycling box by over 90%.
Only occasionly do i come across an offending flyer. I often call the companies and ask to speak to the manager, most often they assure me that they'll talk to the distributer to have the situation changed. Only twice had I come across someone who refuse to comply with my request and i threatened to boycot.
On one occasion i threatened to report one manager to officials about illegal workers, told him that I know he's employing illegal immigrants who can't read English as is evidenced by the fact that they disregarded my sign, he said everything he could to appease me ;)

i have a sort of related question......when i was about 8 i received a letter in the mail addressed to me.....what was weird was that it was junk mail but the letter was adressed to my nickname "alex" and not "alexandria" which when i was 8 i was not even filling ANYTHING out at all let alone filling things out as "Alex", Anyways....i opened this mail up, as excited as an 8 yr old can be about getting mail....and BAM.....IT'S PORN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How the hell did that happen?
