geez. i've got a job interview coming up in a private school in a nice town. I NEED this job. it's a conservative school; i do NOT look conservative.
i bought a suit - jacket, pants, button down shirt. i feel like a dope, but that's okay. i have little gold hoop earrings to wear. but the problem is...
i have locks down my back. there is no hiding them; they are bulky and scraggly and have a mind all their own. i don't know what to do about this!
do i: wear a scarf around my whole head and hair? (then i'll look strange)
do i: tie it in a bun, so you can't see every lock? the problem with this is that my hair is long, so the bun sticks out a lot.
do i: just wear it in a ponytail with a discreet headband? that way, they'll see my hair, but it'll look a bit neater.

i'm not willing to cut my hair for this job. i'm bumming and freaking already. hopefully they'll like me for my personality, but, since it's a private school, job discrimination works on a whole other level. wish me luck and advice!
people with similar problems? how did you deal?

I'd say wear it in a ponytail with a headband. It seems like the most "acceptable" of the options. I hope that they can see past your hair and give you the job, though! Good luck!

i was going to suggest braiding as well.
but the pony tail and head band would work well, too.
they shouldn't be picky about your hair if it's "neat..." as sad as that is.....long hair should flow free.....it's so purdy...

Just tidy your locks up, with a pony tail or scarf, you should be fine. :)

Is your hair just really long or do u have dreads??? Just use some conditioner and brush it then straighten it and pull have back into a low half ponytail. They can't not hire u for having long hair...thats just dumb.

I think she meant dreads. And dumb or not, people pay big bucks for their kids to go private school, they will hire who they want.

I would also say ponytail with headband/scarf. That way the dreads are not a shock when you wear them down or 'exposed'. You can make locks look more 'classy' with scarves..no doubt about it. I wear a scarf when i go places like my kids school or my moms work to visit her. lol Good luck!

I'd just pull it back and then tie it back with a ribbon that coordinates with your suit. Don't worry too much my parents sent me to private schools and I had teachers with dreads. Good luck. ;)

    hmm...
well, i wore a ponytail with a band at the bottom too, so it looked like a bushy ole pony. it was neat; i looked a bit like lillith crain (frasiers wife) but with dreads! boy o boy...
i don't think i got the job though. they were stuck on my art background, because i was applying to be a 5th grade teacher. whatever. i just gotta keep on truckin!
    but for the next interview...
