anyone enjoy this rock opera?? I hear it once every couple of years, and finally Im starting to gain interest into this soundtrack. I cant help but sing along to the melodies of "whats the buzz" and "superstar" awesome album, whatcha all think?? Im not a huge fan of ALW's works by any means, but this one stands out. I dont know why I regain interest every lent, it might be because some radio stations chose to play the whole soundtrack on a whim.....
Whats the buzz, tell me what's a happinin'. WHY SHOULD YOU WANT TO KNOW! I have the record. It rocks. Seen the movie?
it isnt a rock opera?? are you smokin crack??? they have electric guitar, if that doesnt scream rock I dont know what does. yes I have seen the movie, but that was way back when I was in high school CCD, which was around 15 years ago.
it cant be a 60s rock opera either........ it was done in '71, movie in '73. anyways, I would say alot of queen's stuff was less rock than this rock opera, and everyone labels that group as a hard rock band.
This is one of my favorite shows and I've seen it done live a couple times, not to mention owning the movie ever since I can remember. But I'm sorry, What's the Buzz and Superstar are in no way the greatest parts or songs... the best part is the dialogue (or singing) between Judas and the priests right before his death. What you have done will be the saving of Israel, You'll be remembered forever for this, And not only that you've been paid for your efforts, Pretty good wages for one little kiss. Christ, I know you can't hear me, But I only did what you wanted me to. Christ, I'd sell out the nation, For I have been saddled with the murder of you. I have been spattered with innocent blood. I should be dragged though the slime and the mud.
"Jesus! You've started to believe, the things they say of you. You really do believe that this talk of God is true!!" Man, he has a set of pipes, eh? He's wonderful!
Yeah, I still think Ben Vereen plays the best Judas. I've heard loads of different versions with different casts and some of the Judas are almost pussy-like, I mean, they have no soul. Ben Vereen kicks ass... just like he does in Pippin.
I've seen parts of it when I was a wee one, and the part that sticks out in my mind the most is the leper part (where they're reaching toward Jesus, I guess), and the part where Jesus is flipping out because of all the sin or whatever that's going on in the marketplace... I need to watch it. It was quite catchy.
i really like the movieits so different... i like all of the songs i find the scene with Herodes quite amusing
I love it. It's my favourite Andrew Lloyd Webber musical by far. I actually watched it last night. I've seen it done live 2 or 3 times as well, and I love it. Gethsemane is such a beautiful song.
..If its the CD , it def holds up pretty good for an early 70`s bit of recording....there were even a couple of "top 40" hits...but no one has metioned the great singing performance by Deep purples Ian Gillan as J C...and Murry Head as Judas....and the Crusifiction track is actually chilling
*agrees muchly with utopia erwtje* It's awesome. I looove "Heaven on their minds" and "Damned for all time" by Judas especially. He's such a gifted singer. Jesus too, in a different way, especially on "I only want to say". Mary doesn't really float my boat though. And of course the "touch me touch me jesus" part... ^_^
I saw it on video. thats funny cuz thats the only part of it i remember. i guess its just the catchiest part. i remember when jesus got pissed and started flipping over tables and stuff. that was pretty cool.
My favorite part is when Judas is in the desert singing at the beginning while Jesus and his followers are going to their 'hot-spot'. His voice is SO powerful. http://members.tripod.com/Tiny_Dancer/jcovertu.mid
