I matured a shitload this summer, summer between grades 11 and 12. I no longer sport tie dye or ripped jeans, beatles tees or my army coat with the safety pin peace sign on the back and 'revolution' silver lettering across the shoulders..
my style is a business shirt with a suit coat and black pants.(not every day, Im not some tight ass establishment cog) My tastes have matured, although I still love my music. I recently stopped smoking pot, I'm focusing on learning, I've picked up reading again, I can call and make appointments and do things for myself. I don't feel sad about leaving behind the hippy cuz it will always be the biggest part of me.. it's my fucking roots, this hasnt been a phase for me... My heart is tie dyed... But I've reached a level where I understand why these wars are going on, I understand the politics of it all, I will use the establishments system to make the changes I held up signs for before... I dont find anything entertaining about being drunk, I never have and probably wotn in the near future.... all these silly problems the students I school with seem so important to them but they're so trivial...
Am I selling out? well, I dont work... dont have a job lol so who am I selling out to? lying to myself to try to seem older? no, I WISH I could give 2 hoots about this person breaking up with that person but I cant... I hate not finding pleasures in dumb things.

    Any opinions on this?

hate to say it cuz it's such a generalization, but most males who use the 'girlfrined' statement dont like blow jobs from women.Mhmm!*snaps fingers in face*
    get the idea? lol

it's a good thing this post doesnt actually really exist.. cuz it would be SUCH a waste.

    Sister,

Being a hippie isnt about where you work, what you wear, or any of those superficial factors.

Being a true hippy comes from heart (as you mentioned yours is tye-died) and thats what counts.

I have always been a hippy at heart, but Ive never dressed it. I am just overwhelmed at the vision of living in a world with peace, happiness, and love as the prime moving forces of Action and Intent.

But yes, going through life hating the establishment, hating the world, etc isnt being productive. Is this world doing well? No. Has it ever been? No. Will it ever, can it ever? YES, AND YESSSSSSSS!!!!

Its up to people like us.

Not people who were tyedie shirts, or get drunk or high all the time. Its up to the people with the compassionate hearts, the people who are moved by love and wisdom instead of greed and hate.

I applaud you for looking beyond all of the stereotypical, hippie bullshit. Good job, Kim. I'd say you show some promise, which is more than can be said about some of the people here. :)

    ^^^ Good question LOL ^^^

Well, good for you to have developed the ability to rise above petty issues etc.

Having the hippie spirit does not mean you have to wear tie-dye or smoke drugs. That's more about what people (and by the sounds of things, possibly even yourself) believe/d hippies are supposed to do.

Just as long as you decided you wanted to change your look simply because you felt like a change - and not as a reaction to opinions, labels or stereotypes - because maturity is also about having the courage to be who you want to be regardless of what other people think. If you like wearing tie-dye, for WHATEVER reason, then that's nobody else's business.

    Hi there.

I think thats really cool that you have made some decisions about your life.
Part of growing up in my opinion is changing the ways you do/view things.
I guess this year I am trying to focus on school as well , however I am also trying to be more relaxed, which as simple as it sounds, is very difficult for me. I am a very stressed out person who usually freaks out until the job presented to me is accomplished. As for clothing i'll usually wear anything that fits and stinks the least:) .

    Peace and out,
    PhysicTrip

Even I who has a knack for saying ridiculous things has to say that just cuz you don't buy most of your clothes at the salvation army means you are now wise beyond your years. Of course you want to grow, be more than the person you are or see around you. now my word of caution. sell out, be like everyone else, it doesnt make you any better than anyone else. rebellion is in the mind. maybe its easier for guys cuz while im watching people's lips move i'm usually thinking about poon anyway.

    Hi We_All_Shine_On

I can totally related, age does indeed bring wisdom.
Can't remember buying into the whole hippy fashion thing, and never smoked pot. Must have been one of those things I figured out in theory, without making a fool of myself learning by practise (same goes for the merits of not getting drunk/hungover)
Still I was once young and foolish (well more so than now)

There's no need to be arrogant though, we aren't all 14 year old teenyboppers in denial (though you have to wonder about the young hippies forum).
And 16 is just the begininng, you still have years of learning left.

    Totally agree with Blackie :)
