My little boy, my oldest son, is growing up. He turned 9 years old earlier this week and suddenly he's running for the phone yesterday when it rings. Now my boy never has any interest in the phone. My mom radar perked up, and I knew. A girl. He told me that she wanted his phone number at school that day.

I've got girls following him to my van when I pick him up at school, waving and smiling all cutesie flirty like, I've got girls handing him their phone numbers...it appears that my boy is quite the thing with the girls in his 3rd grade class.

Last year, he wanted nothing to do with the term "girlfriend". Suddenly he's blushing like mad and saying "stop mom!" when I ask him if so and so is his girlfriend. When did this happen? It seems like almost overnight he has reached a new level in his maturity.

It's kind of cute in a way, kind of bittersweet as well. My little boy isn't so little anymore...but he'll always be my baby.

I love you bud and I'm so very proud of you...*sniffles*

I know...in some ways it seems like only yesterday he was born, in other ways, it seems so long ago.

I kept thinking this past week that he was turning 8, not 9! How quickly the years fly by.

I'm so proud of that kid though, he made the Honor Roll, and he scored in the 6th grade level in the state reading test that he took last month and he's only in the 3rd grade! His teacher said the goal at this point is to keep challenging him, because he's quite a bit ahead of the other kids in his grade. Let me tell you, I was bursting at the seams when she told me that! :)

Now if only he'd curb his smart-aleck mouth lately! Sheesh! ;)

Yesterday I went to see him in his Christmas concert at school...you know what he told me afterwards? That he felt stupid standing there holding up the big snowflake during one of the songs they did, that it was "babyish". What the heck? Since when did holding up a cardboard snowflake in a Christmas concert turn babyish? :p

awwwww. kai's been "married" to her little lothario since kindergarten. they exchange gifts, take care of each other. he had his mother make her a sparkly apron for her painting because "she's gonna be an artist," he says.

Then he tells you he just wanted to see what one looked like and you believe it :D

Then weeks later you find in the night his girlfriend has been sneaking over to your house, comes thru the window so she and your son can have fun

    Awww, that's pretty cute!

Guess my boy is a late bloomer because he didn't want anything to do with girls, except as friends, until just now! But hey, I'm not complaining. ;)

    Haha! Thanks!

And thankyou thankyou thankyou for the compliment, yes, that is me in my sig pic, taken last month I believe!

You know what's funny is, when my oldest son stands next to me, he's only about 4 inches shorter than me at this point. That kid is growing like a weed!

    Thankyou!

He told me he doesn't understand why the girls like him so much, says he doesn't think he looks all that handsome. At least he doesn't have a big head yet like his father. ;)

    Thankyou. :)

Now it's seeing when the twins start up. Although my daughter is a HUGE flirt already. My goodness. My son loves the ladies, I'm actually more worried about him being girl crazy than my oldest son! *laughs*

Haha, cuuute. At work, we have two regulars, an 8 year old boy and his grandmother. They've been regulars since he was 2 years old. Anyway, one day I was off and I get a call from my friend up at work. He said that he was on his smoke break out behind the shed and he heard the shed open, so he went to investigate, but made some noise, and the shed door flew open and our little regular and his girlfriend come bolting out, lol. I can only imagine what they were doing in there...and it was so funny because you know they were probably just playing house or something. Haha. Innocence is so lovely.
