..since i got rid of my dreads =[ Yeah, i was happy with it at first, my hair was about 3 or 4 inches longer,, but ive since cut my hair because it was unlevel and brittle/breaking and had loads of split ends.. this is what it looks like now Im undecided if i wanna get my dreads back! I know you guys cant give me a definate answer cause the choice is mine like, but id like some input =] I dont yet have a job, but have a temp one for the christmas period and im not sure what theyd say to dreads, especially when theyre young and messy (i dunno about wearing a hat at work etc) I really want dreads again, but id get them by backcombing - and i know ill lose quite a bit of length so my hair/dreads will be even shorter,,, but part of me feels that id really like that, itd be a change to the dreads i used to have I know my mom doesnt want me to get dreads,, she came into my room the other day and said 'you look so much prettier without them..' but i beg to differ - i hate looking 'normal' and like every other girl on the street. i love the way dreads make me look, the way that i become a better person because of them (i think i do anyway), and people have said to me before that i can pull them off cause ive got the confidence to wear them Soooooooooooooooooo. any ideas on what to do?! these are the problems/decisions/ideas.. 1 - wait til after xmas and get them (but i dunno if i can wait,, and i have plans to bleach and dye my hair bright red after dec) 2 - im not sure how employers would see them.. ive been job hunting for near 2 years now and had nothing (no offers of work) at all, and im trainin to be a plumber so its very much a people-based job, but i guess i could wear hats/tams 3 - backcomb a couple as a temporary thing, see how it looks and how much i like it 4 - just not get them back for ages to left my hair 'recover' help? =[
Well u shouldnt care what other people think. If you want dreads get them im sure they wouldnt care at your temp job. And you dont got to bakcomb super tight cause i didnt. I didnt even loose any lenght and there dreading up fine. All backcombing does is speed up the process of the natural way of not combing your hair way to get dreads and it just creates the sections it will knot up adventually backcomb or not.
http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewAlbums&friendID=9450857 theres 2 folders on there - one is a dread timeline, the other is a dread removal the last two sets of dreads i had were done by backcombing and the hair didnt get that much shorter really,, i just dont wanna let it go natural
she had a waxy mess though and it wouldnt come out without removin the dreads i know plumbers who not only have dreads..but work barefiit (he doesnt own shoes hes barefoot even in snow to his knees) if your a good plumber you can get away with anything my advice would be start letting it go natural while u contemplateif dreads form before u decide then fate decided for you..if not thenm when u are ready to make a decision you can backcomb or just let em continue doing theyre thing
nah, i really dont wanna go natural and i dont think my hair will let it - its gone really greasy all of a sudden, im washin every 2 days (that could be makin it worse..) if i am to get them back itll be by backcombing and yeah,, waxy mess. its an understatement, i could bend them into right angles and theyd hold for days cause of all the wax in 'em
eeek thats a scary thought..lol wonder if the wax then removing it conrributed to the greasiness? if it was used to being caked in gunk maybe its trying to self regulate and cake it in natural oils? try washin with the baking soda..and add thyme oil thyme should regulate the oil production
yeah i was ganna ask about the thyme.. and i havent got any baking soda left hahaha im ganna go see if i can find some shampoo/conditioner that is better than the stuff i was usin and see if that works... i still have some dread 'poo left so maybe ill try thatttttt
ah birmingham, i had a good friend who was going to law school there maybe try for something out of doors? i RANDOMLY got hired today by a pet sitting company, basically what i will be doing is driving around in one of their vehicles, and walking dogs. it's already in the forties here in chicago, so i will have to wear my wool digs alll the time on top of my newly forming locks... so i know they won't care. also, i understand what you mean with your mom saying you look prettier now... i have had to fight with myself over that forever, because sure, i do look more conventionally beautiful without locks, but i look even MORE beautiful with them because i am confident and happy with myself and know i'm not compromising what i want to do for someone else. not all people respect that, but you yourself at least should. peace and apples!
get em back and we can form a dreadlock property maintenance company and cater exclusively to mosley. Also there is fuck all work in brum so don't worry your arse, I haven't been rightly employed all year, and its not for lack of trying.
Oh honey. I feel bad for you. I went through the same with my dreads they were an awful latexy mess. I cut all but 5 off (couldn't bring myself to do it). I hated myself for it. I had really bad depression like I was pining for a lost child? I got them back 9 months ago. Learned from my mistakes and try to forget a very awful year for my Identity.
ive been goin for plumbing work, retail work, garden centres, park ranger work, gardening work, alternative clothing shops... nothing! i shall keep trying tho, really dont wanna be on the dole for longer than i have to be =[ and i totally agree with the being more confident and happier with dreads, i think in that sense me and you are pretty similar. i too have 'issues' with myself, my body etc, but dreads really helped me see past that. thanks for the kind words =]
rover bastards took all the plumbing work. my tutor told me today to do/get 17th edition.. how easy/hard it is?!
i combed mine out, took 3 days =O im glad i got rid of them though, in a weird kind of way, cause they were so fucked up and nothin could save 'em, so its good that they went so i could start them again (3rd time if i do haha)
I'm doing my 17th atm and would like to say it's quite easy, but thats with me doing it on the back of the 2330 which is a 3 year course so it's all second nature by now (except they changed eebads to ados and direct to basic and all sorts of nonsense.) I wouldn't really know how to come at it from a none electrical background but id be more than happy to tutor you through it.
i still need to do my 17th ... i would say it would be quite hard going in and doing it without any electrical experience...
I guess your from the UK like me. I've had my dreads for a year and a bit and have no problem working in Sainsburys.. They're pretty lenient with it, like I have dreads, stretched ears and they dont seem to care.. Check out your supermarkets for work maybe..
ive got really really basic stuff.. i can wire a plug in under 2 mins my bro is a sparky, so he could help me maybe maybe.. but he hasnt got his 17th either
