US Supreme Court has ruled in the case of Ashcroft vs. Reich.

Medical Marijuana is now outlawed and the federal government has the power to overrrule the state laws.

This is a huge step backwards and many people are very frustrated.

    What do you think?

The same as I always feel when I ponder drug laws: anger, rage, sadness, hopelessness, and a massive urge to go smoke a bowl. Gotta keep positive, ya know? haha ;)

but you can't just "keep positive"

this isn't about us stoners sitting around smoking weed and listening to music. This is about people who SUFFER from various health ailments who are having thier medication taken away!!

What are we going to do?!

Ever since George W. Christ got in...all it has been has been STEPS BACKWARD.

But, the sad thing is that John Kerry would not have relaxed marijuana laws either. He and Clinton and Bush and all of the government assholes are FOR the war on drugs.

The Supreme Court is full of these types as well. And NOW it is apparent.

    it's sad....but honestly it doesn't surprise me....

the government is all about control, controlling how we think, and ultimately controlling how we feel.....if they were to allow sick people to smoke marijuana, it would be a huge blow to the pharmaceutical companies who are obviously partners with the government.....

    they are nazis......

    uh, nothing...
what are you suppose to do, seriously now...

also btw.. there are others that suffer from pain (like myself) that have to go to pain management and have been told that they wont give me anything any more for my pain, that I have to just deal with it... so its just not people who have had medical marijuana that are in pain and have been told to screw off..its done to everyone basically...

An odd twist: Justice Renquest and Thomas voted in the minority along with Justice O'Connor. They thought the this was within the realm of states rights to regulate Medical Pot. Not the Federal Government.

It is a sad day, indeed. I am not a lawyer, but it seemed to me that the case had nothing whatsoever to do with marijuana and everything to do with State’s rights and Federal control. I have not read the decision but would very much like study the logic behind it (if there is any at all). My gut feeling is that the Justices are in the bag and will somehow bend legal logic to fit a desired outcome. They shoot down Federal gun laws as being too intrusive and then overturn a lower court decision that ruled physician ordered marijuana grown on one’s own land in a state where it is legal to do so, involving no economic activity at all, is legal and call it interstate commerce. As you all are fond of stating, WTF???

Hmmmm............ in my opinion- Bush is scared that if he allows drugs- the big corporations that he get on all fours for- won't him. If he doesnt have the assholes supporting him he has no support at all- sooner or later America is going to figure him, Rumsfield, Dick and all the other manipulative redneck bible- huggers out.

how 'bout a good old fashioned protest in the streets. I actually think that there is a yearly one in that park that's across the street from the whitehouse. It's on July fourth and everyone goes there and smokes pot in public. I remember witnessing it myself some years ago. The cops just said that you had to stay in the park to smoke. I guess it was o.k. because it was a free speech protest thing.

So while a bunch of us hippies are partying in the mountains at Rainbow nationals over the fourth, there'll likely be some true activist out there on the mall in DC fighting for the cause.

this is totally true. But, nationawide surveys have shown time and time again that the majority of the American public SUPPORTS medical marijuana! So why are we electing officials that don't share the same view points as us?

The US government is getting more greedy and power hungry everyday. And it's because so many people are afraid to stand up and tell them what they think!!

there are a million things each of us can do. Write to your state senators, write to the federal government. Write over and over again, call over and over again. They can hang up on me and send all my letters back, but they can't do that if more people join the effort. Educate other people. Have meetings and lectures in your own hometown. Come up with compromises (such as letting the US tax the shit out of us if it means helping those sick people)

I could go on and on about small things each of us can do. But it means nothing if you let someone else do the work.

I can't wait until he have a President who was born after Vietnam and who has been through the real issues on a straight-level basis.

Clinton COULD have done something, but his fear of the Tight Asses and his Conservative Democrat background were blocking this.

The "War on Drugs" is a fucking JOKE, much like every other thing the goddamned stuffy-shirted, puritanical, TYRANNICAL nanny/big brother government does.

As much as I disdain hatred, I HATE the government in all aspects. And the word "hate" is appropriate in this context.

I think that if we all really cared, we'd all check out what NORML is doing these days and throw our support behind them, as there is strength in numbers that are banded together.

Besides, without checking it out myself to be sure, I'd have to guess that they're already positioned to lobby Congress for change. That's what we need. They've got the experience already.

first off, let's leave Christianity out of this. You don't need to stereotype and insult to get your point across. That's the kind of attitude that makes pro-med people look bad.

Like I said, do some research and fight back with facts!!

You say that America has to look around and realize what's happening sometime...
well my friend, YOU are part of America. Don't rely on others to voice your opinion. Go out and speak for yourself! Obviously if the American public had the balls to stand up to our supreme court, this wouldn't have happened. We need more people to stop being afraid and go help the cause!

people can say that support this, get out and talk, band together.. but that wont do anything, you think that will change anyones minds... not really..
I dont mean to sound so negative about it but does anyone understand what I am saying though...(probably not)
Nothing anyone does will change anyones mind in the government or anything..

so I guess you have nothing else to contribute here.

This is something I really stand for and if you don't, then that's just fine and dandy with me. I still think you're a hip chick, but what's the point of saying "it's not going to work"? It's quite redundant.

Tell me WHY it's not going to work.
