Donald managed to secure 2 terms on a slogan, "Get America great again", but it might just as well have appeared on a box of breakfast cereal.
The problem that he faced, was that following the post war boom period, ALL of his predecessors took their finger of the button, allowing the greedy corporations to import without government balance of trade regulations. As a result, the corporations made billions while not producing employment. In reality they became parasites.
The only resolution starts with employment, but the factories have gone, skills no longer exist and the workers became bone lazy.
Cracks soon appeared, the main one being lack of public health system. At first people had money, but as this dried up the entire country slipped into decline.

Successive presidents buried their heads in sand and sought election by handing out a few crumbs, but even those became progressively expensive.

The only solution to the current situation is to balance trade. Tarifs do nothing, except possibly reduce the market on imported goods.
The problem is, that reversing the situation takes time and money and will take at least a decade before the public see any benefit.
I wonder how that will go down at the next election. Probably just more lies and false hope.
