So I got the Ballad of the Broken Seas album the other day and I'm in love. For anyone who hasn't heard of them, it's a duet album from Isobel Campbell (formerly from Belle and Sebastian) and Mark lanegan (formerly from Screaming Trees and from Queens of the Stone Age). It's such gorgeous music - kind of Johnny Cashy, with Isobel Campbell as a more ethereal June Carter Cash. Their voices work together so well, and the songs are just amazing. There's this really great review in Playlouder that said If you want to know what a duet between Mary Poppins and Satan sounds like then 'Ballad of the Broken Seas' is surely a close approximation. So true! anyone else heard of/like this album?
I thought the album kinda sucked. It was just really slow and boring, so undistinctive. And Lanegan's voice just sounded so corny on that album. It was almost like hearing a Simon and Garkfunkel album without the talent (Not they lack it.) People are better off sticking to Belle and Sebastion and Camera Obsecura
My girlfriend bought me this album when we first started going out so its got hugely fond memories for me but that aside, its fabulous!! I've had it prob 5 or so months now and I still find tunes on it that I hadn't really noticed and taht and balls achingly fabulous ("honey child what can I do" being the latest!) But then anything with Mark Lanegan involved in it I tend to be a huge fan of. I actually ashamed myself in front of him in London last month but thats a whoel new story. But yeah, I think that record is just peachy.
i actually didn't care for it myself, but have you heard "Amorino"? that one is gold....she also has a 2006 release called "Milk White Sheets" i've never heard it but the reviews say its a return to "Amorino" style.
