hey all, i was just gonna post this on hippies but its the younger hippies mostly so: Alright, when i imagine hippy, i think of no logos..... I dont see someone sporting designer jeans, or a t shirt with s kate company name on it... I dont consider someone wearing big floppy skate shoes, one of those winter toques thats not cool to wear all year, and some baggy ass jeans.... thats more like a skater.... but some hippies on here are sporting that look... and I dont really consider it a hippy look. now dont post some long ass replies about whats inside that counts, etc... im not asking for lifes meaning here. I am just asking am I living wayy in the past and the new neo hippies dress in conformist ways and BUY ANARCHY shirts? I fucking hope not.... anyways, how far off am I? is this the reality of today?
In my own defence.... I MAKE all my ANARCHY shirts... Also proclaiming your a hippie is very in style these days
well see, thats the point.. you MAKE them, thats 100% better than going to zellers and buying them...
whats it matter? stereotypes suck ass anyways. i wear big floppy skate shoes when i do wear shoes, maybe i should leave this site i also have a few skate shirts, im sorry i offended you
Mt ex-gf is bad for this. She pretends to be a hippee, but she doesn't have a clue. For one thing, she doesn't know shit about politics. An apolitical hippee is an oxymoron. She just decided one day (after I took her to a few shows) that she liked the look, so she wanted to be a hippee. She even went veggie for a little while, but it didn't last.
i have skate shoes. they cost a lot, but they last forever. and they're extremely comfy. but i only wear them if i need to wear shoes. i'm usually in flip flops or barefoot.and some of my clothes are the more expensive kinds, but i got them for super cheap always and it was before i was enlightened in life. and i just haven't gotten rid of them .. tho i will soon. i just need to get over to the city to sell them. then i'm going to go buy tibetan clothes i love.
I think her point was that these so called hippies are just uber-materialistic and dont care one ieota about what matters... Right?
i dont care about materialistic crap. i have the shoes, wooptydoo. i guess that automatically means i cant be a hippie. well if you say so
Do you obsess over the shoes? Are they the only kind you'll wear? Cause I know people like that... I piss em off and throw their shoes on lines =D
no, i just havent gotten new shoes. ive had these since last winter and they are torn up and so comfy, i dont plan on getting any other new shoes for a while.
I don't consider myself a hippy. I don't consider myself as an overall label. I'm a left wing. I support the green party.. but in this case, it's important to put Bush out, so go John Kerry. I'm a vegan. I like the idea of peace, it's nice. The thing is it'll never happen... world peace is and always will be a dream. I support feminists. Etc. Etc.... I wear Adidas shoes and flip flops... and I own a saucony shirt.. and an adidas shirt... but I only bought those because they were on sale. I have a Roundtree and Yorke and an LL Bean field jacket... I bought those because they were comfortable. I really don't care about brands. I like comfortable stuff. I'm addicted to flannel. I don't shop at wal-mart when I can... but wal-mart put everything else out of business... there's a food lion and a winn-dixie that's about to close. Then the only competition left is going to be Target and Kroger when they build them. So... there aren't many places to buy anything. And if you do buy clothes from anywhere they're still going to be made in pakistan somewhere. So... I don't like sweatshops, but I don't have much choice... I'm not a hippy. I don't really consider myself a hippy... I do listen to some music considered what people think is hippy music... I don't really give a rat's ass. I like what I like. I really don't consider myself anything besides a political activist, an animal rights supporter, a vegan, and a person who likes comfortable clothes. A lot of people don't like that.
....you know... I just relized.... I'M SO PUUUUUUUUUNK! (Sorry for the spam all... its gonna happen anytime a label war breaks out)
its ok george, most people are stupid. Just dont worry bout em. I dont consider myself a hippie, I just thought this post was pretty dumb. Good job not looking down upon others
if you use this smily one more time i'll flip. at anyrate she doesnt seem to be looking down on you from where im standing. this post was about people who are materialistic and love to advertise corporations with their clothing..not about looking down on anyopne who owns anything brand name. i own an addidas shirt and a pair of north pole (fubu rip off) jeans. but im not offended by her post because i realise that im not the kind of hippie she's talking about. you obviously don't go out of your way to buy brand name clothing and advertise the fact that you're wearing whats 'cool'...so this thread really isnt talking about you. im sure we all shine on owns a piece of clothing or two that has a brand name on it...
Yeah, it bothers me alot. It's called "values". Hippies were labelled that for a reason, they mostly had similar beliefs when it comes to conforming to the rest of "normal" society and wearing name brand crap. The rebelled by wearing thrift store stuff and homemade stuff, trying to avoid giving a whole bunch of money and support to huge corporations, and not being what the rest of society wanted them to be. I just get so upset when I see little 9 and 10 year olds wearing baggy jeans hanging down to their knees and boxers showing, big tshirts with some brand name on them, skate shoes, and a toque or shaggy hair. It's the "in" thing right now, and to see little kids being dragged into that pisses me right off. Clothes say a lot about a person, and they support whoever makes them. If you're buying friggin "Roxy" stuff and "Dickies" stuff, you're just giving in to what every other mindless, conformist teenager is doing. nd don't get into the whole "well you're conforming to what it's supposed to bne a hippy" crap, because it's impossible to not conform. By sitting in a desk at school you conform, by wearing anything or wearing nothign you conform to some group. The point is, being a hippie is about the beliefs, values, and so on. If you wear the same thing everyone else is wearing, you're conforming to the typical teenager. Be different! You don't have to wear bellbottoms and tiedyes, wear clothes that are YOU! If you wan to wear a sarong as a dress and faery wings, do it, friends! Wear what you wnat, not nessessarily the easiest thing available. I'de say shop and thrift stores or make clothes, that way, no one else has the exact same thingYou have your own unique YOU outfit
i agree. if you're name brand, or capitalist at all, you're not a "real hippie" but whatever. skaters are all (mostly) posers trying to be cool
whoa, soul rebel, smoke a bowl and chill okay? im not saying anyone ISNt hippie, i am asking if my view is dated or if its true and these so called hips arent hips at all... I adore shoes, its a feminine thing... I only have 2 pairs f shoes, birks in blue and birks in brown... but thats just what i like.... I love shoe shopping and such.... I will obviously need to buy warmer shoes since summer will be ending soon and the cold canadian winter is approaching.... but guess what?! im gonna buy them used ! OH NO! lol that shouldnt make me more of a hippy then the people who pay 50 dollars for a pair of shoes... which brings us back to my original question which no one answered.....are you "hippies" hippies? or has the image become cool and mixed with other looks, thus creating a new breed of half hearted hippies? IS MY IDEA OF A HIPPIE WRONG? thats what im asking. thank you lunacy, for getting it...
we all shine on: see that is hypocritical. although birkenstock and other companies are more "hippie friendly" if you support them then you are doing the exact same thing. i've never owned a pair of real birks, but i have look a likes that cost me 6 bucks at target. that's like 100 bucks cheaper, and the look a likes are still the most comfortable sho i've ever owned.
