Obama has reneged on a number of promises made during his election campaign and that has pissed off quite a number of people who supported him, especially on the Left. But one must consider how many things he's done that people will consider when they go to the ballot box next year. When you tally up some of his "accomplishments" you have to wonder if he won't be a shoe-in for re-election, and if this isn't part of the plan... The whole Republican debacle might just be a sham to re-elect Obama. With Republicans finally tearing into each other, while ignoring the issues most important to Americans (jobs, economy), it seems the stage is set for a landslide for Obama unless the Occupy movement can come up with a rival candidate. So what has Obama done that he can claim personal credit on to some degree? Off the top of my head here are some: Bailing out the Banks - as much as we despise this, it's a big win for him since the banks are now in the black (well some of them), recording billions in profits. So they will keep backing Obama. Bailing out GM and Chrysler - They are back in biz and making profits again. Passing Health Care - Again something many were against due to all the compromising with the Republicans. Of course the Left would prefer he stuck with Single Payer, aka government paid health care. But this was a victory for him nevertheless, to get such a huge package thru a reluctant Congress. Killing Osama. Yes, Obama killed Osama. That will be a rallying cry this election, just wait. Killing Gaddafi. Obama didn't do this by himself, nor did NATO, but they're already claiming credit. Assisting the Mideast Revolutions. While not directly participating in the revolutions/uprisings in Iran, Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, Syria, the US is providing tons of covert and financial support to these uprisings as well as technical expertise. Of course, US support wasn't always there in the beginning and the US is failing to do the same in Yemen and Bahrain where the revolutionaries have had a much harder time gaining traction because the US supports the repressive governments still! Unemployment Insurance - Obama has fought uphill battles to renew and extend the Unemployment coverage of Americans during the economic crisis so that people get more than the basic 26 weeks. So many Americans have been out of work for a year or more and desperately needed the extra insurance. UPDATE: I forgot to add that Obama has drawn down the number of troops in Iraq as promised, and just today has vowed to pull out all US troops by the end of the year. Of course this is the will of the Iraqi people, since they get to decide whether the US stays or goes, not Obama. Also realize he moved troops from Iraq to Afghanistan instead of bringing them home permanently. So while Obama has disappointed many on the left, he's managed to please whole groups of people and corporations that normally would not support a democrat for president. This will ensure his re-election! Of course he as well as every politician can be faulted for all this political gamesmanship at the expense of the economy and the end of the American Dream... So what do you think, will he be re-elected?
Maybe- maybe not. I will be blissfully unreached by the campaign rhetoric- particularly the attack ads and gaudy promises of reform that any thinking person would see right through- but the abundance of them indicates that they do work- that people buy into the bullshit election after election. The above rings pretty true. The thing is that the actions of both parties seems to reflect that their true priorities are NOT the economy and employment because they are just too damned valuable as blunt rhetorical instruments that they can beat one another with while gullible sheep gobble it up.
Correct. Just like they made John McCain -- one of the weakest Republicans -- Obama's opponent in 2008. But if I say some of the things you just said, I am attacked and made to look like a conspiracy theorist. I do think it is likely the Democrats will win re-election, but possibly not with Obama. I think it's possible either he will be forced to step down, be exposed in some "scandal," or something else. The Republican candidates are pathetic, but Obama's credibility is so tarnished it's going to be hard to rig the elections in his favor without it looking obvious, unless the Republicans cannot come up with any more convincing stooges than what they have now. I do believe the powers that be would rather have a Democrat in office, because even though both parties are controlled, it's easier to continue forward with Obama's domestic agenda (which is not his at all) under a Democratic president, and probably someone other than him, like perhaps Hillary. When you boil it all down, it doesn't mean shit who wins or what corporate party they belong to. Presidents are put in office to work for the system -- not the people. It's all the same shit with a different mask.
Wow, PR, you managed to make a political post without Conspiracy written all over it. It actually sounds like YOU and not some REPETITIVE, SPAMMY cut and paste from a conspiracy website. Keep it up! That's all we ask.
___________________________________________________________ For the record , I think you make some great points . Some strange ones too . But don't we all , make some strange ones sometimes ? Most people believe what they are told to believe . They are brainwashed by the media to scorn , ridicule and label those who dare think for themselves outside the box as "conspiracy theorist " . A term that represents a lunatic fringe element , because they dared to wonder off the reservation . Because they research and search for truth in an insane world . It's easier to live in denial , with ones head buried in the sand . Then to face the truth alone against the rest of the herds acceptance of what truth they are told to embrace and accept at face value . Because it takes work to find truth , and once found , it means leaving the herd . Leaving the security blanked and will ultimately have to become at odds with the rest of the herd , and their sheep mentality . As far as the "re-election" , does it really matter ? two sides of the same coin .
I don't visit conspiracy websites (haven't for years), let alone cut and paste the bullshit most conspiracy websites are riddled with to make legitimate information appear bogus. No, I have had pretty much consistent views for the past ten years now, and my views are entirely my own. The only thing that has changed is my understanding of just how manufactured this so-called reality is, and how easy it is to manipulate and control people. But I have about as much tolerance for conspiracy people these days as I do political people who parrot left and right wing talking points they heard on CNN or FOX. Alex Jones is at the top of my shit list.
Difference is, I didn't link it to some global elite conspiracy. And yes, you ARE a conspiracy spammer. But I have hope you can overcome your addiction.
Cool. However you act like you know it all and nobody else does. We knew this shit in the 60s & 70s and actually tried to DO SOMETHING about it then, instead of just whining about it as most do today.
It's cool that you're becoming a free thinker. However you act like you know it all and nobody else does. We knew this shit in the 60s & 70s and actually tried to DO SOMETHING about it then, instead of just whining about it as most do today. Unfortunately we got marginalized then just as they do to those who take to the streets today. However, now it's not just young people facing a military draft that are protesting. Everyone (99%) has been affected by the economic insanity now gripping the world thanks to the unstoppable greed of the 1%.
C'mon Skip, when is the last time I posted a link to a conspiracy site? Even back before I was banned in '09 I was beyond that stage. Please try to be a little more accommodating when it comes to people with different opinions, even if you think they're strange. Anything the media doesn't talk about will sound strange to most people.
If you echo the same b.s. over and over, you don't need links. I give you credit for sticking to your guns and not wavering in your condemnation of certain things. However you offer no hope or opportunity for change, instead you're 100% fatalistic. Yes, the system is fucked, but we all have a chance to make a difference and change it in our lifetimes. If we do nothing but whine, we are just as responsible as the "Global Elite" for the state of affairs. Anyway, let's get back on topic please.
Well, you could say that about anyone who's adamant in their beliefs, regardless of what they are. Is it any better when partisan political people parrot the half-assed shit they read in some big money funded publication or hear on the tube? Anyway, I need to get some sleep and don't wish to argue right now.
Yeah, he is. Who of the republican candidates do you think can actually win in 2012 against him?! I'll wait....
If I don't complain, I soon find i have fewer complaints. If I am at peace then I do not feed a competitive system that needs competition to survive. Everything must eat.
I think what Ron Paul says resonates with most relatively informed people, but the media seems eager to ignore him or discredit him over stupid shit. Other than that, the Republican candidates are a joke. But so is Obama. Like always, there is no real choice.
The establishment seems to have learned its lessons from that period- those lessons being how to manipulate, placate, and mollify a population that is cultured into accepting a premise that it's the government's job to cure all social and societal ills- which is accepted despite repeated evidence that those in charge hold an almost sociopath's contempt for the general public. In the 60's and 70's it was accepted that we had to be the agent of change but now we just assume that the responsibility will be outsourced and we whine because the change we feel entitled to does not happen when we do little or nothing to effect it because we believe it's someone else's responsibility... whether that "someone else" happens to be a political candidate or a contrived third party whose real purpose is to create the illusion of change. I see Obama's role as being an agent of illusion- create the perception that real change is at hand when in reality he is working in cahoots with the banksters whose agenda he is compelled to sell as though it were in our best interest. People will still believe the sales pitch and the repugnicans are probably going to have a paper tiger as a nominee so he's most likely going to have four more years.
Ron Paul's purpose may well be to induce a head count of the citizenry that those who are really in charge can identify as dangerous.
No one's a shoe in. It all depends on the economy. If we go into another recesion next year I think Obama's out.
