Yeah I know that being houseless, especially in a city, is not safe. But seriously, if anyone has experience with this kind of thing, please, some realistic advice. Thanks.
Whilst taking a short (3 week) course in A'dam, a good mate of mine had nowhere to stay and basically no cash and was sleeping rough for a week or two without problems, even in Vondelpark, just find a secluded bush I spose. You can always take the last train to schipol and sleep there, safer than on the streets at any rate but I've never tried it in Amdam but was living in a major UK airport for 2 weeks at one point myself with no probs, good luck and happy vagabonding!
its safe though i wouldnt sleep in the streets usualy police just tell you to get going but once a cop took me down station and gave me a ticket (no money but if i get another ticket in 24h in that area i get fined) some cops are undercover and they can be black (i am not a racist it just happen to be first time i ever saw a blackcop outside tv) i wouldnt worry much about yourself more likely about your stuff the lockers in cental cost 5,90e per 24h and you can only keep stuff in there for 72h. yeah i am talking about some experience since i slept 2 nights outside and 1 i waited through the night. you can escape to the central station if it rains hard they let me sleep in there with other travelers sitting in the lobby near luggage storage. i didnt find anyone very threatening cops are slim little creatures and the dealers arent that bad homeless themselves can be helpful if you want to find some special place in say rld just ask a homeless looking guy/girl to help you and give em 5e for the trouble saved me lots of time when i was lost (i had a map ) the hostels are so FULL in the summer so people may find themselves unvoluntary having to sleep in the street for a day or two.
Sounds like an interesting idea this "roughing it" plan! Did you do it just for the hell of it, or to save cash? I'd try it but I think I'd get to bored just wondering around the city.
long time since I've been to Hipforums! I found plenty of places to crash on the coast, a short train ride from Amsterdam. Luckily, it wasn't raining; though I did carry a tarp! to andyleggot, I did it because I didn't have $ for hotels, & I wanted to see Amsterdam! love ya' Svi
