Depends on what you wanna play. You can get sounding quite good quite quickly, but it takes a lot of time and practise to develop some realy musical skill. I pretty much taught myself, but my brother is really good and gets free lessons, so i pick things up from him.
I started when i was ten...me folks paid for a years worth of guitar lessons and i've been self-taught and happily strumming away ever since the two most important things you need are time and the self dicipline to practice (and maybe a lotta patience, depending on yer natural ability)..........tis worth the effort tho'
when you dont have any limbs left, just tune the guitar with your teeth in a certain fashion and pluck your strings with your tounge. At least you will be able to play a one chord song, or maybe you can make a one-six note song, but that might take excellent tounge-ship to make that work. guitar can be difficult to get the hang of, but it just depends on how much dedication you want to put into your instrument. Or you might just be born to be a good guitar player and you just dont know it yet
i've been playing music since i was a wee lad at age 7...started on Piano, moved to Cello, then to Bass, then to guitar, which is my favorite...i write songs and lyrics....i like ballads like "the house where nobody lives" (Tom Waitts), "Dirt" (Phish) "I Know you Rider" (Grateful Dead).....but that on acoustic....on electric i bust songs like "Stash" (phish) "Bathtub Gin" (phish) etc...but most of the stuff i play, like 90% is all original tunes....some on electric, some on acoustic.....my band has about 25 original tunes that we play live....we've played a few handfuls of shows....15 or so.....always fun.....you really just have to want to play the guitar.....love it. work at it....
oh its so sad, when you see bitterness towards the guitar and guitar players....its not our fault you couldn't master the complexity of the 6-string, and its also not our fault that chicks dig guitar players the most....i'm the only one in my band to get laid after shows.....they just like guitar.....
if you wanna learn start with songs like let it be (the beatles) and hey joe (jimi hendrix). they mostly have pretty basic chords, and hey joe will get you working on lead guitar.
Truly, I would, one day, enjoy watching a tuba player commence in sexual intercourse with said groupies...
easy to learn, hard to master, thats what i have to say. You can learn basic chords, but its endless the amount there is to learn on guitar, endless, but its great to get into if you are looking for something to do.
It depends on what you want to learn and how far you want to go. If you just want to play basic rock n' roll, it's pretty easy. But once you get into complicated stuff, it gets more difficult. But if it's something you enjoy, it wont feel like work. The great thing about learning to play guitar, or I suppose any instrument, is that there's always more you can learn to do, no matter how much you already know
Actually this old sorta bluesy guitarist at an open mic night, told us that there was a guy who had no hands and had some sort of thing made where he could still play the guitar and really well he said. I wish i could remember how.
