My period never comes on an exact day. It jumps around a lot and sometimes changes completely. It usually comes around a certain date but then changes randomly, and this month I just didn't get my period at all. Is there something wrong with me, or is this normal? Thanks for any replys.

how long have you been menstruating, and does this happen all the time or just recently?

since you're 17 that sounds normal. all our bodies are different and some take longer to get on a regular cycle than others, and even then our cycles are all different.

if you're sexually active and missed a period, you should take a pregnancy test. if you're having other problems, like severe cramping or excessive bleeding, then you should talk to a gyno and have a check up. otherwise it just sounds like you're still settling into your rhythm.

do you keep track of your cycle on a calender? http://www.cyclespage.com is pretty good for that; they track it and give you the average length of your period and also estimate when you're ovulating and when your next period will be (although ive gotta add that although it takes a guess at when you're fertile it is by no means a way to prevent pregnancy, especially being irregular).

you might also want to think about things like stress levels, diet and excersize since that can impact your period, too. if you tend to be real stressed and exhausted at the end of the month, that might delay your period, for example.

I'd say that if you're irregular at the age of 17, that's still normal but if it bothers you that much, think about birth control. Alot of young girls start taking birth control to regulate and level out thier periods. I did. But everyone is different.

I have a really really irregular period. I haven't gotten it for 11 months once...or I'll go 8 months, 6 months...3 months...etc. The last time I got my period was in september...so it's been about 7 months for me now. I dunno if it's "normal"...

have you gone to see your gynecologist about that? If not, maybe you should.

I'd agree that at 17 your periods are still going to be chaotic because you haven't been menstratuing for that long, assuming that you started around 12 or 13. Mine were really wierd in the beginning then they changed but you also have to see if other life stressors are contributing to the lack of the period last month... i.e. are you under a lot of stress?; are you sexual active? Those sort of things could contribute to the lack of your period.

I agree... At 17 your body still is changing....Novarys right Birth control is good to regulate.. I have been on it for a long time to regulate mine... I wouldnt worry about it too much though

But Artist of Peace... I would go to the doctor... You might have a vitamin deficiancy.. My friend is like that... She's 24 and gets a period every 6 months (round about never a month or 2 apart) very sparatic and she went to the doctor.. Its beacuse she has a Viatamin deficiency

hey, umm yea i thought i was gonna start yesterday but still havent today. im a vegetarian so im always really light and only last a few days. but usually im right on time around 28 or 29 days. and today will make 30, i dunno i always get stressed around time for me to start and that probably delays it, but i always get worried im pregnant or sumthin.
i'm supposed to be getting the pill, and hopefully will get it today because i have a prescription for it and just need to go to the pharmacy. but i was gonna ask if by chance i might b pregnant or what not, if i started the pill b4 my period started (this sunday, if it hasn't started by then), would that stop pregnancy?
I know they have the emergency contraception pill, and i could take that too, but i dunno if it would b necessary. i've had sex like at least 3 different occastions since my last period. last time was this past friday.

I'm in my 40's, and my periods have never been regular. When I was in my twenties, I went to a doctor to check things out, and he said basically that some women are just like that...I have a slightly tipped uterus, and that may have been the problem. You might want to consider checking it out with a doctor, just to be sure, but it may be just the way your cycles go...it may, also, as others have suggested, be because of your age...my cycles are exactly like yours...I have to say, it makes it hard to prepare ahead of time!!

Yeah, I don't think it's anything to worry about. I started mine when I was 9 and I'm 19 now... it's never evened out. I'm not complaining though because it results in less periods a year. I can go up to 2 months without having a period, so I'd say there isn't anything to worry about.
As for ArtistofPeace, I'd get that checked out, that is not frequent enough. If you aren't having periods, you aren't ovulating, so you wouldn't be able to get pregnant (or it would be extremely difficult to get pregnant).

Thank you everyone for your advice. I got my period when I was around 14 years old so it's probably just because I haven't had my period for too long. I just turned 17 in January too. It freaks me out though when I just randomly don't get my period one month. This is only the 3-4 time this has happened so I don't think it's anything to worry about.

Oh and I don't really want to go on the pill. It just seems unnatural, I'd rather not go on it until I really feel the need to. Thanks though.
