How come my 30g Ipod says it has 27.82 gigs of free space with nothing on it yet?

Also when I downloaded my 2107 songs it only puts 1662 on it after I selected all.

    I know I'm a newbie but I don't get it.

The songs that didn't get on it are probably of a format the Ipod doesn't recognize. (Maybe mp4).

its because theres already preloaded things that are on the ipod, i.e.: games, notes, schedule, etc.

Exactly. It's a bit cheap, but they do include the space taken up by the software on the iPod in the 30 gigs. And like Pavel said, make sure all your songs are MP3s.

it's called formatting. that's how the silly things, any kind of compupamatatical gajizimo, can FIND things on the disc. (or any other kind of storage media)
