    Yay or nay?
At times i feel nay...but on forums such as these, i feel there should be courtesy simply because of the nature of these forums...they tend to attract a lot of intelligent people.

unfortunately some of these intelligent people are also extremely immature...

i seem to go back and forth on whether the internet should be a place of happy, peaceful discussion (arguments even) or just a big 4chan shitfest...haha

    your thoughts?

i try to keep most of my stuff courteous.
but some arguements definatly get out of hand. i think people should take it easy tho. something about the internet just brings out the anger in people lol

most definitely...i often get pretty heated in arguments, but on here i also try to even and iron out anything that may have flared due to the argument...

i think most everyone on these forums are intelligible, wise people and bring much to offer...i often PM people after a discussion to just level things out

recently it seems to have made things worse :O

there are the types that just can't be reasoned with all too easily, unless you are reasoning to go along with whatever they say...i guess in that regards internet courtesy only goes as far as others are willing to take it as well...two way street sort of deal.

on internet games, though, such as online multiplayer of a game console, i let my courtesy leave completely and tell people to go fuck themselves because they are fucking faggot ass dick suckers that cant do a god damn thing...:p

if only that were true for all...i think a lot of that mentality has to come with a lot of forgiveness and understanding as well...the internet is a hard place to communicate with the intricacies involved with communications face-to-face

I tend to think some people behave like they do because they can.
They tend not to see people behind computer screens as people, that they should show the same common decency they probably do in real life.

Some people also come online in all states of intoxication...so their perhaps usual behavior is altered.

Then you just have annoying cunts who are just complete a-holes.

there's a place for everything on the internet. a place for serious discussion and a place for absolute bullshit. there's definitely courtesy that needs to be followed but not for the internet in general, more like for things like forums

I try to keep it civil even when I disagree with sombody. I can't stand it when people start making threats, it's so silly. Nobody is kicking anybody's ass online so why bother with all the tough guy talk.

absolutely! i try to be courteous, but most people dont seem to appreciate that at all!
and certain things bother me disproportionately, like STFU pisses me off to no end. its seems so insulting, like what i have to share isnt worth it at all. and the other day i was selling a weapon to someone on GW, and instead of an nty he said fuck off. why? because HE didnt have enough gold to pay for it, so I was wrong? people are incredibly disrespectful.

agreed. online gaming will never garner the same respect as a forums. for one i dont get to know people on games, but half the time there are 12 year old little shits calling me a ****** and teamkilling, etc etc.

i do meet fun people on some games, but my behavior is a little more sarcastic than serious, for obvious reasons

oh but the threats are the greatest part. when you get someone to threaten you, you get to make fun of them and they threaten more. at that point internet courtesy obviously doesn't work so you can just dig in and make them squeal about how whoever is going to come rape your family :p

like i said, online gaming is never going to hold the same regards. the best way to deal with that is be as much of a douchebag to others when they express themselves that way.

I try to be courteous. But, there are plenty of jack asses who get online for the sole reason to stir shit up.

i'm in an online college - everything is done through forums - then i enjoy reading plp here; the trouble is because there is no body language or verbal ques i often mess up the participants.

plus i can't reach out and tickle anyone just to get them off track.

i think it has to be a mix of the two really, have to dish and serve enough shit to make it enjoyable, but there also must be a line drawn that allows the convo to contunie.

Flame wars are boring (at least participating in them sucks. Sometimes they can be fun to watch), so that's the main reason I try to be courteous. It's just better that way.

I can be a condescending fuck sometimes though.

Thatls why i love Xbox Live:D! It's so much more gratifying when you have the mic and your actually yelling at a person. Plus you can always talk trash about thier game if they're playing bad. And after 30 mins you never have to see the person again.

lol I remember earlier in the year we had an epic thread about how we never got new people in the stoner's lounge because we had formed such a stoner community and were so hostile to other people

I think that's true of any message board that isn't ridiculously large. They tend to have "regs" and new posters are usually criticized more harshly than one who's been around for a while.
