I have chronic insomnia. It can be caused by all sorts of things. An over the counter sleep aid with doxylamine is pretty effective. It is better than the ones containing diphenhydramine. 1mg of sublingual melatonin also works well for many people, but I wouldn't take it long term. I alternate those two with orig. Dramamine (dimenhydrinate) and Percogesic (acetaminophen/phenyltoxamine). Good Luck! Insomnia sucks. . .
I had insomnia for a while. Stress, stress and more stress is what caused it for me. If you can, try and solve whatever problems you have. If you can't, meditate, do Tai Chi, or whatever else calms your mind. Because as far as I know, it is all in your mind.
try some eye exercizes before sleep. look up as far as you can, then look down as far as you can, repeat side to side, and then roll them around 5 times counterclockwise, and 5 clockwise. do some deep breathing before bed, avoid caffiene after 3pm. also try some acupressure http://www.ibiblio.org/herbmed/archives/Best/1994/insomnia.html http://www.holistichealthtools.com/insomnia.html give these suggestions a shot before turning to sleep aids. even herbal ones can be habit forming and it sucks to rely on them.
