Where I am from, in the last few years, indoor smoking has been banned in all public indoor area (restraunts, bars.. Everything!) As a smoker, this kind of sucks. I understand second-hand smoke can be deadly and unpleasent, but I think they should have area for smokers. Perhaps not like they used to, with a table for smoking and for non, because of course, smoke travels, but maybe a different enclosed room or something where you can smoke indoors. Is indoor smoking banned where you come from, and what do you think about it?

They do it for the bartenders and servers. And I'm used to it, plus I quit smoking so I really don't care anymore.

It's been like that here for so long that it seems normal. Smoking inside really seems strange to me now. When I finally quit 3 years ago, it made it easier.

I got pissed off over it at first... but then I just looked at it as an excuse to go outside, or for a walk...

Plus, I've met many people while smoking outside places. You can't imagine the amount of drug connections you can make through cigarettes.

That's not it at all. Do you really think the government cares about people's health while they put all kinds of shit in our food, air and water, and mercury in the vaccines? It has nothing to do with that. They are now starting to ban smoking in apartment complexes in some areas (meaning you cannot smoke in your own apartment), and they are talking about literally banning smoking in private residences (I kid you not). A similar anti-smoking campaign was conducted by Hitler and the nazis back in the 1930s.

It’s all about controlling the lives of an ever expanding population

A cynic might suggest a good old fashioned plague (with a mortality rate of 80%) is in order [IMG]

I like the social atmosphere of smoking outside-in the winter, however, I wish they would have a little heated area.

Mass has a few bars that still allows smoking but they are actual social clubs, so you have to be a member-my mother is a drunk and joined every club so she could drink and smoke haha

I'm glad that there's no more indoor smoking. Before I quit a few years ago, I always felt bad for smoking around others who don't, because that's sort of imposing my habit on them, so I often (almost always) waited until I went outside to have a cig. But now since I've quit, I kind of like being able to go somewhere and not have to gag on other people's fumes while I eat or whatnot.

Some buildings ban smoking on the outside perimeter also. I know of at least one business school in my area that does this. After they banned it indoors, everyone was on the front porch smoking like a chimney, so they banned it out front too.

i've said this before....it should be up to the business owner. fuck the gov't on this issue

but yea, the social atmosphere outside is pretty chill - even as a non-smoker i go out there. plus, always having a lighter is handy to spark a conversation

I remember a news story where some people at a restaurant in NYC tried to set up a bus in the parking lot to circumvent the no-smoking laws inside the restaurant. They got in trouble for that too.

toledo banned it a few years ago (it was the city with the highest percentage of smokers at the time and was banned without a vote), and then ohio banned it a year or two later. i think it's bullshit, it should be up to the business owner, maybe have a separate room but really i think that even that should be the business owner's decision. they can deal with any consequences they bring upon themselves, just like the customers and the employees

all i can say is fuck yeah and yay and thank god.

i don't care if people want to breathe fucked up chemicals and tar into their lungs but i shouldn't have to as well just cos im in the same public space. i HATE going out to a club and coming home absolutely reeking of smoke. it's disgusting! if i started expelling noxious gases into the air people would complain their asses off. but it's the same bloody thing. it's just so socially done and acceptable that people forget that shit is nasty.

and don't even get me started on people who smoke around their kids

Yes, Ryan, the government loves you. They don't want you to get lung cancer. Now go get your mercury-laden flu shot.

Is anyone forcing you to go to a place where people are smoking? There were plenty of smoke-free restaurants BEFORE the government-mandated bans, and there were plenty of restaurants that had their smoking sections well closed-off from the non-smoking sections. It's just another way the government conditions people to have more of their personal freedoms taken away. THAT is what it is all about! The government does not give a shit about you breathing in smoke.
